Are hide-aways gone forever?

With the big three competing for muscle and style once again, will any of them bring back the hide-away headlight design?  Not the crap pop-ups that the vettes and firebirds have, but true doors that will flip up to reveal the lights.  I guess the camaro is the only car back in production that could be heading that way (I don't think the new charger will go that route for quite a while).  I would assume Mustang and Chally are out.  Who do you guys think might try and take on that design once again?

Yes, we will see them again on something.  At which time they will be viewed as an engineering/design marvel.

the hideaways are one of my favorite features of the 2nd Gens.

I am a huge hideaway fan.  If the new Camaro comes out with a hideaway package and Muscle conv, I'd be drooling. :drool5:
I love the 69 Charger, GTO, and Camaro hideaways.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I agree.  It's one of the most appealing aesthetic features on cars of its time.  And to be honest, I don't think I could own a third Gen without them.  I hope we see it on a worthy car soon.

Dogtooth hold your breath for the factory to offer them in this cheaper the better world.
They would just won't do them  :brickwall:

But some aftermarket company could and the new challenger would be easy the way the deadlights grill are mounted.

Everything comes back in style.  El caminos were out for a long time.  Subaru had a "Baja".  Bit of a rare car but you see my point.

They need to bring back hideaways and the sunken rear window too, you don't see that rear window design anymore either.

You probably won't see the sunken rear window again since it was aerodynamically incorrect.  Created too much drag.

Someone on this site has a picture of a 2nd gen with the hideaway lights opening and closing in their avatar, can't remember who it is.

With modern bulbs in housings,   designers can dream up most any shape they want.    They're not restricted to the standard round and rectangular bulbs of the past.

I doubt you will ever see hideaways anymore...   especially if the bean counters have anything to do with it.

no one knows the car regs outlaw hidden headlights i guess...  :shruggy: kinda old news, it was written about extensively when the C-5 came out a couple years back now. do you know about the front impact hight standards?..

I love hideaways my first and second cars had them (68 Ford LTD and 69 Charger) I would like to see new cars with true hideaways.

In the mid 80's my wife and I lived in an apartment on the end of a block in Philadelphia. One day I noticed I was a hideaway junkie because my 70 Cougar 68 GTO and 71 Charger were all lined up and I was taking a picture making sure the hideaways showed.
