Circa 1975 X9 Black Hemi Daytona ad

OK, I'm being warned about resurecting an ancient thread, but it is probably my only claim to fame with an actual Hemi Daytona so hopefully people will be understanding.

I too went to Alabama and saw Don Hick's car, after watching the price go down month after month in Hemmings.  It was sitting in his house.  He knew I was driving a long way to see it, but I just gave him a call when I was a few minutes from his house.  I didn't want him to have several hours to get a barely running engine to fire that I'd never be able to start when it was cold.  I was pretty young back then, and of course Mr. Hicks must have figured I didn't know much (which was true).  So we're talking and talking about the car, he tells me about the cross country trip it made from out west, and I'm looking and waiting and waiting for him to say he'd start it up.  But he never did.  So I'm wondering why he wouldn't start the car, and figuring that there MUST be some problem.  And thinking that the paint was relatively mediocre.  And I remember the little Hemi emblems on the door, thinking that was so neat.  I also remember thinking this is the ultimate car ever manufactured.  EXCEPT that it didn't have a red interior.  We actually worked out a price, and he was going to take a '56 Chevy trade sight unseen based on my description.  Then he said that other people were coming to look at it, so I got cold feet.  And it didn't have a red interior, so I was hesitating.  So I was going to keep looking for a DIFFERENT Black/Red Interior Hemi Daytona.     I remember backing the truck out of his driveway like it was yesterday.  I stopped about half-way down his driveway, which was a bit long.  They were all sitting outside as it was just getting dark.  I wondered what I should do, and they were all looking at me.  But it was too big for me and I was too afraid to spend such a massive amount of money when I had such limited knowledge.  I didn't learn until much later that he was some big-guy at Chrysler.  And also that it was possible to have a Black/Black Interior with a red stripe, which the Charger Restoration Guide said wasn't allowed so that also made me wonder about the authenticity of the car.  I stil wonder if the Charger book said it was legitimate and if I knew he worked at Chrysler if that would have made the difference.

Thanks for reply .It was also in the 78 Car Collector magazine black with slott mags with no stripe .The car got restored by Jacobs .And belongs to Steve Fox. 
But  XX29J9B405189 had other previous owners   The HEMI 3 plate also shows under Gary T Haven the car is XX29J9B405189 .Well known as Don Hicks car from Huntsville Al .If I recall correctly that car went to Steve Fox if Im correct .It should the same black car in the first link.

And to think, I could have bought this car (prior to restoration) in the early '80s for 10 grand.

In 1979 in NJ/PA area you could have got Anatols V hemi 4 speed daytona no motor or trans and nose nose or wing.Then later years it was complete up and running $30K

There was another Hemi Daytona, Blue, advertised in Hemmings long, long ago.  I called and called, and the phone rang and rang, but nobody ever answered.  To get an idea of how long ago that was, answering machines weren't everywhere.

With my complete collection of hemmings just name a few of my aquired materails.I have my own aero car accounting and geographic locations eng trans etc info.Along the way got ads with vins and mileages cars sold as no motor rolling shells .Many years later same cars got matching number and less mileage I can look up those cars and owners of those cars currently .So I can compare then info to nowaday info about a particularcar.From where it sold from to owners historys classified ads etc
