If that is a 1975 ad (which it appears to be), it must not be Don Hicks' car.   I thought Don still owned his Daytona at the time of the 1979 Car Collector magazine article.   I also thought he owned it for some time after that.

In 1975,  $8000 was all the money (and more) for that car.    It's all relative.

I agree to an extent. I do not think that its quite the normarmal rate of inflation though. You cant even buy enough parts to assemble a nose properly for that 8k any more.

My point was more about coming up with $8k for a five year old used car at that time.   That was a ton of money.   It sure does seem cheap today with the way the priced jumped.   But once the car is priced out of your reach, it doesn't matter much whether it's $8k then, $80k in 1988 or 800k in 2006.

That is the Black/Red Stripe Daytona that now belongs to Steve Fox and was at the Nationals a few years ago. The original engine had been rebuilt, but not correctly!

Paul, If I may ask, how was it determined what color the stripe was. As there was no fender tag and I didn't think he had the build sheet

I passed many cars in the early 80's I could have bought and are now worth way more than times the normal inflation rate. One example was a 1970 Cuda Convertible Hemi triple red for 20k. Whats that worth today its one of one? Also a Petty Blue Superbird 440+6 4spd car for 7k. I did buy a Superbird lime green in 1982 for $3400.

This car and my other General Lee are from the Warner Brothers movie. They are both stunt cars built with heavy duty roll cage and stunt add ons like line lock and a second brake and metal welded underneath the car for jumps. I tried to post more pictures but its saying the attachment is to large.

I agree the car did not have a stripe on it in the early 80's. I have pics of the car from the mid 80's when my dad was going to buy it. He passed on the car because it had a repaint and there was no fender tag or broadcast sheet to verify anything on the car.
