It's funny......Today, it seems the meaningless movies dealing with Fast cars seem to be looked at as Jokes...Yet, the term "Greatest" is used to describe some of the most iconic car movies..."Vanishing point"...If you actually WATCH the movie and try to make sense of it, then the movie for most doesn't seem to have the same "Feeling"....How bout DMCL? Here's a movie about two dudes that seem to aimlessly race across the country in a Bright Yellow '69 Charger....And here we have the F&F with A 1970 Charger, yet everybody I talk to doens't seem to give it the same praise as these earlier movies.....Hmmm, I wonder if Vin Diesel will have to pass on and these movies will have to sit dormant for another 20 years before they are considered to be "Iconic"?

BTW: Get rid of the "pimp" wheels...Paint I can deal with...Where's the wheels that was on it in the first one?

Guess you inspired some of the "look" on this one Mike. But yea... The spray paint makes it look tacky.

I was told once from a co-worker, so I don't know if it's true, that movie cars are nothing special.  Meaning that they are wreckes put together to look good on camera and not close up.

?????

that is true bob in some cases, but other cars they go all out for close up shots and what not although those usually get wrecked too :rotz:  i sure would like to get a hold of one of those BDS injected superchargers they have just "laying" around from the previous movie.....since they're not usin it   :D

Mike DC

It's easy to laugh at the quality of typical movie cars.

But I stopped laughing the more I learned about the circumstances that the studio's mechanics are working in.    They frequently get told to find, buy, build, and deliver a truckload of matching copies of a car in a matter of weeks.  They get two months if they're very lucky.  I think the first 3 HemiCuda converts for "Nash Bridges" had to be on the set 2 weeks after the builder first got contacted about providing them.

And these movie cars all have to work right.  They have to be used as REAL cars by non-car people.  No stalling motors, no soft brakes, no headers or oil pans that hit speed bumps, the E-brake cables have to work, etc.

Charger440RDN

I read that the charger from the last fast & furious movie (which sucked) was a rusted out shell with cobbled together parts, definitely not a valuable car.

Supercharged Riot

I listened to the director's commentary on the previous movie.
He actually pointed out that 2nd Gen Chargers were harder to find when they were making the 4th movie.
Some of the ones they actually got a hold of were indeed junk cars as well.
If they were smart, they would have saved the cars they used last time.
I doubt that since the 70 Charger got banged up pretty bad in the last movie.

Mike DC

Nobody is throwing 2nd-gens away these days, movie studio or not.

I'm sure at least some of the Chargers used in this movie are the same ones in #4.  If Universal itself didn't hold onto the fixable cars left from #4 then their subcontracted car supplier for the movie probably did.  And those guys will reskin a heavily damaged car just like the rest of us.

Ghoste

I'd argue that destroying them for a movie IS throwing them away.
