Hi Guys, I ordered a new fuel gauge from yearone and have installed into the tank. Filled the tank up to full and it reads empty :shruggy:
I have read through the previous threads on this issue, and have pulled it out and tested the unit with the following results. Also found the tank float was full of gas hence the empty reading  :brickwall:
Full   9.7 ohms
half   30  ohms
empty  78 ohms
give or take a few ohms.
As far as i have read this appears to be about right, i have refit the unit to the tank and the gauge wont go any higher than quarter of a tank. The fuel level in the tank is just below the unit hole so over half a tank of gas :shruggy:
Can anyone shead some light on what the problem may be :shruggy:
I have also hooked up a lead to the sender plug to the sender and a earth to the battery and sat inside the car and moved the unit from full to half to empty the gauge moved up and down with no issues :shruggy:
Any help would be greatly appreciated   Phil

The aftermarket/repro sending units notoriously read incorrectly. Have you checked to make sure your grounding strap is clipped on tight?

I've simply just tweaked the float rod until it read correctly. You have a 1/2 tank of gas? Pull the unit out, & keep tweaking the rod until it reads 1/2 tank. Siphon out 5 gallons of gas, and see if it reads 1/4 tank. Put the 5 gallons back in, double check to see if it reads 1/2 again. Put in another 5, & it should be around the 3/4 tank mark.

I basically found it was just a matter of trial & error.
Good luck!

Thanks m8 i will check the earth strap, earthing from the pipe on the sender to the fuel pipe is that good enough or should it be earthed to the body as well :shruggy:

I've never had any problems with just using the stock ground strap. But, it wouldn't hurt to add another to the body if it solves your problem.

I did whole thing about this, I bought a new sending unit and it wouldnt go above 1/4 tank.  Let me find the thread.

I found that i bent the full tabs back a bit to allow more travel.plus bend the float arm the trick is to bend it not at the end near the float but between the beginning of the float arm and the stopper tab you wont the arm to travel further on the sender unit.I got mine reading 3/4 when full. I stopped there because i was sick of pulling it out if i had a hoist i would pull it out again. To stop your next float cracking and filling with fuel bend the wire rod that it sits in,make it larger if it is a tight fit it will crack again.
