Witnessed a Hit & Run and chased him....

Death Proof

I am not recommending this to anyone, however...
I'm sick of people, particularly in crappy cars destroying other people's cars. The tale begins at an unassuming intersection. :popcrn:

The crappy silver 2005 Pontiac Sunfire in front of me throttles into the car in front of him shoving him into the intersection. After the whiplash recovery, the victim pulls out of the intersection and pulls over. The Sunfire makes a swift right turn and flees the scene. :flame: I was not about to let this person get away, so I followed. I tried to lay back at first to not be obvious, then he darted into a residential area. BTW: there was no traffic at this moment so he knew I was there, (dammit). After about a mile of residential mazes he popped back out onto the blvd. This time in thick traffic. I had 911 on speaker and was closing in due to a red light he was about to hit. 911 advises me if I do not have a plate (which was the point of the chase) to NOT follow him. And just like in the movies, a dumb lady pulls out in front of me and stops (sideways blocking the road). I lay on the horn, "Outta the way!!" I tell 911, ,"Don't worry we're stopped I'm just trying to get this car outta the way." When the clueless woman finally moves the Sunfire is gone!
Sad, but true.

There are many things to consider why I did not catch this turd of a human being and I will share them with you now. ::)

#1 Reason: In the wrong car. I was in a Toyota van. This vehicle handles like a small bus.
2- First major rain was in force.
3- People could get hurt.
4- Didn't want to destroy my Father's van in the process of hurtling suspension crushing, body scraping dips and wet roads. Like Bullit... with awful cars.
5- There were actually 2 men in the car I was trying to get the plate on. Maybe they ran because.... you can add your own list of horrors here.
6- The police are only around when you aren't looking, not when you need them.

If you have ever been a situation like this you know the feeling. If you haven't you can only imagine. I will say things would have turned out different had I been in the Charger.... :cglow: lucky for them.

Well now, that has to be among the top ten best first posts on this site. :2thumbs:

I've caught a couple bad guys in my life, on foot. :icon_smile_big: And I did track down a car that was involved in a shooting once but there was not much of a chase involved. Mostly by chance and dumb luck I happened to find the car parked at a house (after they lost us for about 15 minutes) and relayed the info to the police.

Just another good reason why some vehicles should be equipped with heat seeking missiles.

They never seem to be around when you need them, but go through a yellow, & there must be ten of them around. Welcome to the site, glad no one was hurt, laser cannons would be better.

In the end it's not worth the risk. People are not trained to drive fast in traffic like cops are, even though we all think we are great drivers. There is strong chance that you do a lot more harm than good by causing a wreck and maybe injuring or killing someone. Besides, the cell phone is faster than your car, and the offending car is likely stolen anyway - so, the plate # isnt going to help. That all being said, in the spur of the moment if I was hit and the car ran, I'd be so pissed off I'm not sure I could come to this rational conclusion.

I once witnessed a rear-ender hit and run on the freeway directly adjacent to me and watched as the hit car and another gave chase to the offender. It was a pretty good smack, but both vehicle were still operable. I watched the ensuing pursuit through freeway traffic shoot out ahead causing a lot more risk to a lot more people. Fortunately in my instance I DID get the plate, and reported it, though I never did find out what happened in the end.

No matter what, karma will kick yer butt if you do things like that. I'm sure the man upstairs has it under control.  :fireangry:

Too bad you weren't driving a diesel truck with an aftermarket bumper on it. You could've just ran into them and left.

Yes! So, eloquently put forth. Vishnu - the All-Pervading essence of all beings, compilation of the five, the master of—and beyond—the past, present and future, the creator and destroyer of all existences, one who supports, sustains and governs the Universe and originates and develops all elements within. Hare-rama, hare-rama my Hindu friend.

I have followed hit and run drivers twice but once I got a plate I kept my distance. On one of those occassions, the Local cops were all over this idiot within 3 minutes but on the other it seemed they could care less. I do realize though that calls are done on a priority basis. On one other occassion, I was in a shopping mall parking lot and the Police and Mall Security were in a foot chase after a guy coming right toward me. Just when the guy thought I was going to step aside, I tripped him up and he ended up face first into the pavement. Just as quickly he was in hand cuffs.

What do you mean how do I know? Well because he stopped really quick and asked the people if they was ok and he took off after them the people that got hit seen the car pull out in front of him right down the street from them. The bad thing was the guys license plate flew off and way laying beside the road and nobody seen it till afterwards so he didnt need to take off after him.

Vainglory, Esq.

Well you didn't mention that he stopped and asked the people if they were okay.  I was just wondering how one could know what the guy was doing when he died on a motorcycle alone.

But it seems to make more sense now.
