I've been a member on this site a long time, was even a member on the old site. I have never really made a thread on my 69, but the last couple of years I have been doing body work on and off. Well today it finally paid off....its finally in color!!!!  (Its painted FJ6 "Go Green")
I am thrilled with the body work, its straight as an arrow. I primed and blocked four times (twice with polyprimer, twice with urethane primer). Im pretty happy with the paint, I got to sand off a couple of runs and and sags, the hood and trunklid have a little orange peel, not bad through. Should buff out ok.
I'll try to post more pics after I unmask it and push it outside.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. The car will have a black vinyl top, interior and tail stripe. I tore the front of my "booth" down and unmasked it today, and took a few more pics. I will post some more when I get it outside in daylight.
Like I said I got a few issues to take care of, nothing major, but I think it looks better today than it did last night. Im even more excited about it today. Also notice in the last couple of pics, the tailpanel. I painted it (and a few other parts) last week using a SS satin black urethane. I think it looks a little more like semi-gloss than satin, but Im happy enough with it that I think I'm gonna leave it alone.

Thanks again for the comments and thanks to all that helped me with all my questions during the bodywork process!

I was just thinking, and of course, take it for what it's worth ;-) but a white top, white stripe and white interior would be stunning!

Yeah, I would agree I wrestled with that decision a long time, finally decided black in the end, because most my interior parts are already black (upper door pads, kickpanels, etc.) and had already bought black seat covers and headliner (back when I was planning on painting it yellow).
So I just stuck with black. I admit though.....white on that Go Green would look awesome!

Dammit, now you got me second-guessing myself LOL.

It looks like you really did a good job Jason! I'm not usually a fan of high impact colors on 68/69s, but that looks good.  :2thumbs: I also like your homemade paint booth. Did you have a fan blowing in or exhausting out??

Thanks. I actually had both, two fans pushing in and two pulling out, to create a positive pressure. It worked good.

DAMN THAT TURNED OUT AWSOME!!!  I remember seeing pics of the body work a while back... maybe on another site.  I hope when it comes time to paint mine, it comes out that nice.  I plan on painting it in my garage, but the base has a Binks paint booth and all the equipment.  I have to weigh out the options on cost though.  Green and black looks real good.   :2thumbs:

Thanks. To give you an Idea on price...it cost me about $130 to build my temporary paint booth. Thats plastic sheeting, filters, 2 box fans (the 2 I used pushing in I already had).

Love the color, actually I thought about doing my 70 in that color with a white top, white interior & stripe. But since not to many made in B7 will leave it. Just goes to prove you do not need to spend a lot of money to get a great paint job.  :2thumbs:.

Cool.  I will have to sit down and factor in all the expenses on all sides... me painting it at home, me painting it on Base, or just having someone else do it profesionally.  I am more of a DIY'r though.  How big is your garage.  I think mine is abou 480 sq feet... cant recall overall deminsions though.  I dont know if I have enough room to build a makshift booth in there or not.  I is a two car garage, but it might be tight length-wise.

jaak

While I was waiting on my buffer to come in, I assembled my grill and had to stick it in for a photo (and a little inspiration). Its just got a couple of bolts holding it in. I have since pulled it back out and started the color sanding process. Soon as the cutting/buffing is done I'll take some more pics.

I havent been on here very long but saw your car and wanted to say great job. I love the color and have thought about going with a high impact color on mine next time. I think black top and stripe mill look great.
