My 66 charger had been sitting in a field for at least 5-10 years when I bought it.  Is there a good way to flush out the gas tank and lines without pulling the tank? So far i've only ran the engine off a gas can.

You WANT to drop the tank on any old car! The "sock" or "filter" on the fuel pickup protects the lines but can be cracked or clogged. It's not that hard to do.  :2thumbs:

Most radiator shops will clean them dirt cheap.

if you clean it.. there is a product called "red-kote".  comes in pints.  pick up one up.  after cleaning, use that to coat your tank.  it will prohibit rust and biological growth.  great stuff.  oreillys carries it on their shelves.

remove the tank...

remove sending units and such...

put in a piece of steel chain...

Shake it around for awhile... this will remove a lot of rust thats in there flaking...

clean...tank, I've put some gas in it and shook around....empty into aproved disposal container... like where you keep your old oil, don't dump it on the ground like our favorate Link whorer...

Let it dry, coat as stated above...

good to go.

or

buy a new tank :-)
