My 69 Charger project is coming out so nice I thought about upgrading to a new set of repro tail light lenses and chrome bezels as my current set is nice but not perfect.  In fact its the only item left on the car I don't have new or rechromed/polished.  The pictures at BEA and Ebay (PG Classic) don't really show any detail.  Are these worth the $700+?

Pictures would be great.....thanks

Jake

I'll look for it, but there was a post showing that the '70 lights are correct, but they use the same molds for the '69, and add a plug to the mold where the reflector would be, and it can be seen, so the '69 lenses are not like the originals.

Wow, with all the tail lights for sale on Ebay at cheap, I would have thought alot of guys were changing them out.  No takers?  Didn't see a post when I did a search that showed them in detail.  I can't believe there aren't any members who have them....

Come on guys.....

I got the lencses only,  I was happy with them.  The silver painted outline that were on my originals was not on the new ones.  I wish I had bought the bezels as well.  I needed to massage the hole to mount the bezels to the lencses.  Easy job.  I think they look much better than my old ones

Here's what I can tell ya...........The BEA 69 lenses look nice but they don't have the silver stripe detail. My lens are in good shape and I've got another complete set of tail lights both of which have pitted bezels. I'd like a set of those repopped bezels but at $375 a pair that's a lot 'o samolians. Places like Pauls Plating quoted me $300+ to rechrome one bezel! I'll have to spend the cash eventually because I'm not putting the old bezels back on.

Were the BEA ones a solid peice or are they 70 style with a red insert as another member described?  Any chance you can take a photo and post it?  I am sure there are a bunch of members interested before they drop the coin.

Yeah, if I do it, I'll get the whole set (both lenses and bezels).  Although I'd rather not part with $750...

Ok PG Classic (Ebay) sent me these pictures of the front and back of the repro lights.  They do appear to be the 70 design with a red insert for the reverse light.  However, they do have the gray trim painted which is different then BEA.

Still would like to see pictures of them installed in someones car to see how they look in real life.  All the pictures I've seen have them on a light board or similar.

Bobby41909

Interesting that the PG Classic (Ebay) one are cheaper and more complete with the gray trim... :scratchchin:

I have never dealt with PG classics, but I know Mike at BE/A takes care of his customers.  I think customer service is worth a few bucks :Twocents:

Ok well I decided to take the plunge and buy the PG Classics version since they came with the grey painted trim (plus they were $50 cheaper).  I understand they won't have the MOPAR stamp on them but I let people take my car apart when they look at it so no one will know.

I'll post a picture when they arrive in a few days.

Hey Bobby,

I'm looking forward to the pix you post. BEA offers good but very pricey stuff. I haven't heard many good things about PG Classics and really hope you're happy with the delivery timeframe and quality. PG Classics doesn't offer the chrome bezels do they? It appears BEA is the only "bezel" game in town no?

I bought the set of taillights and bezels so we'll see.  I've used both PG and BEA in the past and been happy with both quality and timeliness.  I'll keep you posted.

They have them listed for $375. I was going to buy a set then a guy told me about this polish called Wicked so I redid mine and they look like new.

JT01,

What is PG getting for those bezels?

Tom

PS Thanks Bobby.

The bezels are $375 and the new repro lense's are $375 also but if you buy them together as a set it's $699.  Steep $$ but they are the last of the old items I have left to put back on the car and the paint and body work came out so nice the old ones would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Bobby41909

OK I got the repro taillights with bezels from PG Classic and they look great.  appears the passenger side got crushed alittle durign shipping so I just contacted them to get a replacement but they do look good.  I'll let you know how well it works out getting a replacement.  It's really hard to see the red insert (70 style) unless you shine light through it.  Even then its real hard.  I am going with the LED conversion so I doubt you'll be able to see it at all with 192 LED's shining through.

FINALLY REAL PHOTO's OF THESE LENSES.

Those look really nice!!  Any new updates?  Have you installed them, and if so, how do they fit?  Quality (In your opinion)?  Anything else you can think of concerning these lenses (good and bad, if any)?

Thanks!

Yes, check our my restoration thread, lots of pictures of them installed.  If you go through the entire thread you'll see I had an original set I cleaned up but decided to sell them and get the repro's just because I wanted them to be perfect.  They are now!  These repro's look amazing (IMO).

Wow they look fantastic Bobby! I'm curious about the posts on the bezels. Are there plastic tabs on the lenses these posts go through? How did you attach your new bezels to the lenses? Thanks   :2thumbs:

I bought the set from PG Classic (lenses & chrome bezels).  They came mounted.  That was the major reason I went this route.  On my old set the lenses looked pretty good (after polishing them forever) but the chrome was pitted and someone glued the bezels to the lense.  My only option was to sell them on Ebay and buy all new (if I wanted to go perfect, which I did).

However, to me they looked exactly like the original set I had.  Posts were metal on the bezel and they attached through a plastic mounting point on the lense.  PG Classic (or whoever makes them) put a small dab on glue over where they mount so the post doesn't come apart (maybe its not as tight a fit as the original.  Maybe way all the originals break at that point??

twodko

Hey that's great the bezels come already attched! I was wondering if the repops had the posts "mushroomed" somehow. Dab of glue at the post/tab seems like the way to go. I'll use that same method on mine. On of my bezels is perfect the other one has some minute pitting but I have to put them on the car. $700 is big coin when you're layed off. I've still got another couple pair of lens so if I enjoy a windfall 'o cash I can buy new. Nice stuff man.  :2thumbs:

My 70 has round backup lights mounted in the valance. Didnt the 69 have the same arrangement?

Brock Lee

Yeah, the 70 has the same backup lights. What they are referring to is the rectangular reflector that was added to the 70 taillight lenses. It is not a back up light.
