Which classic Mopars do you really not care for at all?

Some might say "I like them all" and to that I have to say I don't believe you. ;D So here's you chance to fess up and tell us which one(s) has/have you wondering what they were thinking. Let's keep it to between 1966 and 1974 since there's so much post-74 ugliness. BTW, no offense intended if anyone owns one of these. Just sharing personal opinions.

Here's some I've made an effort to like but just can't:

1. This style Fury looks like a Mercury Comet, Ford Fairlane, Galaxy, etc. Not something I'm likely to ever stare at, let alone buy.
2. The 73-74 Satellite. Everything is pretty good until you get to that grill. :eek2: The 71-72's are gorgeous but after that they're lost on me.
3. The pre-67 Barracuda/Valiant. Almost so ugly that it's good-looking, but not quite.

Daytona R/T SE

1. "A" Bodies. Yes, all of them. I can't stand 'em.

2. 1973-1974 Chargers, Road Runners, Same year E-bodies, C-bodies etc.

...Anything with those big, ugly, black rubber tits on the bumpers.

Take the tits off and they're much better, though...

3. The 1966 Fury pictured above. They're hideous compared to the much nicer looking 65's.

4. Any 1966-1974 Mopar with those oversized, stupid looking "Pimp my Foose ride" wheels on them.

5. Any 1966-1974 Mopar built or modified on one of those car "Fix it" TV shows...

C_stripes

64-66 B-cudas are FUGLY.
I don't care for 72-4 challengers or cuda's either.
73-4 Chargers and satellites can be added to the list as well as 73-6 darts. If I wanted to look at a pecker all day, I would look at a.... well never mind. The front of those are crazy ugly.
I'm smarter than I act, But I don't act smarter than I am.

jaak

'75-up B-bodies, all F-bodies, although I did buy one, one time for a low mileage 318/904....scrapped the body out. I have to agree about the 73-up Darts too, I really don't like the 'beak' on the front....but I would still have one.

Great topic Bull.

The 1974 Road Runner, like the Satellite, had the worst Mopar front end ever. You called that right, for being just wrong.

The 1972 Newport had a front grill that just sets a record for being fugly. Kind of the like the huge eyeglasses that certain folks wear. (I ain't hating on senior citizens, I'm just saying ....). That grill had no style, it "hurt outloud". Sorry Newport owners.

screw it im just gonna come out and say what most 2nd gen charger owners think. the nosecone and rear window plug on the daytona turns an otherwise beautiful charger into ugliness

the wing's cool and it all serves a purpose aerodynamically but hell, it's no wonder they sat on lots when compared with how the stock charger looked  :nana:

but then again... i think 69 Chargers are the worst examples of a 2nd generation Charger.. the 70 comes first, then the 68, then the 69.  71-74 B bodies are my favorite.

so.. the ones that i would throw out are:

- any 65 and below a body barracuda/valiant
- 66/67 fury
- not sure of the year, but the imperial that had the free floating headlights up front
- any K car

I don't like the daytona or superbird much either, yes I understand why they were built. Also the notch back barracudas have never been on my list of Mopars I would like to own. The 73 & 74 Satellite & RR grill reminds me of Marty Feldman.

Sorry Bull but whether you believe it or not I can't say that there are really any of the 66-74 Mopars for which I don't care.  I have my favorites and because of that certain cars get relegated further down the list but there aren't any of them that I find so ugly that I wouldn't want one.

71charger_fan

I'm going to assume we're talking about the '64-'74 model years. Otherwise, the number of possibilities gets too large.
Although I owned one (a '59), Dodge never made a Coronet I liked. However, the only one I outright dislike is the '70.
I really do not like the '71 Barracuda/'cuda because of the grill. Same with the '71 Duster sharktooth.
I'm not a fan of the '72 Charger SE because of the taillights.
The '73 Fury also deserves mention.

i second this. it's always such a bummer seeing "clones" and the "before" pictures, taking a fine and nice '69 and doing all that to it. no disrespect to those that do it and the superbirds and daytonas, i just don't think they're as appealing in style and design as 68-69 chargers and 68-70 satellite/roadrunners/gtx.

A few years ago, I would have agreed on the Daytona. But after playing with one, I really came to love the look and style of it. Looking threw the rear window and seeing that wing. The scoops on the tops of the fenders. Dang I think they look good. However, I can't stand the super birds. The wing is to tall, the nose is to long. They just look out of proportion.

As for the E-bodies, I think the 70-1 challenger and the 71 'cuda are very stunning cars. Thats my opinion though. I could care less for 70,72-4 cudas though.

I think 70 Super bee's are amazing. They look wicked bad.

As far as 73-4 runners. There was ONE cool thing about them. That hood bulge looks great when grafted onto a truck hood. Lol
I'm smarter than I act, But I don't act smarter than I am.

bull

Funny to see a coiuple people saying they don't like the 71 Cuda. I love the grill but don't care for the side graphics they often used and I have to say 71 is probably my favorite year of that style. But the Cuda body itself (not counting the grill) is beautiful. IMO there's no contest between the 70-74 Cuda and Challenger, the Cuda body wins.

Hmmm good topic Bull.

1. I can not stand any Barracuda before 1970 and do not care for any Cudas after 1972.

2.  I do not care for the 66 and 67 Coronets.  Do not like them at all.

3.  Not a real big fan of the 1972-74 Chargers either.

4. Not diggin the 72-74 Challengers.

5.  And have never been a big fan of A-bodies at all, any year, any model.

6. The 68 or 69 Roadrunners.  I have had a chance to by a few cheep, and always passed on them.

7. Have not seen a Fury newer than 66 I would want to own.

8.  And the last is not so much of a car, as it is a look.  I can not stand the little Magnum 500 with redlines or the steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps.  Little wheels on narrow tires under such big cars do not look all that good in my opinion.

I have to agree here GM always had better designs than Chrysler except for 68-70 in my opinion.

For example the 66-67 Chevy Chevelle looked better than any Mopar in those model years and I think the public agreed when you look at the sales numbers. Chrysler got wise in 1968 though when the Charger was redesigned.

Chrysler always had the best engines but the ugliest cars in the early to mid 60's

Charger-Bodie

I like the look of a 66 or 67 Coronet or GTX far better than any Chebelle. And as far as the 50s go I would rather have a 58 Plymouth 2 door hardtop than any other 50s car period.

I do dislike the greenhouse barravaliants though.

I like the boxy look of the 66-67 Coronets too but I can't deny that the 67 Chevelle looked good. If you look at the Chevelle it had some of the same design elements as the 68-70 Charger such as the sunken rear window and curvy rear hips (quarter panels)   :Twocents:

The wing cars. I understand the reason and I admire then for being rare. But I can remeber seeing pictures/models of them when I was a kid and thinking.... that sure would be a cool looking car if you got rid of that silly wing and goofy looking nose cone thing.

Another vote for the early barracudas. I used to not like the early B-bodies either, but the more I see them at shows and whatnot the more they grow on me. Beyond that, also don't like 71-up darts/valiants and 73/74 Roadrunners and e-bodies.

I couldn't find anything I liked from 1961.  I thought it would be cool to have a car from the year I was born.  I never liked the Dusters, but they have realy started to grow on me.  I can see myself in one of those.  The wing cars I obviously love, but I remember as a kid there was a Bird on a local lot.  It was about 3 years old and still new.  My brother and I both were hounding my dad to get that one.  He said that car is butt ugly.  I wouldn't drive that if they gave it to me.  He bought a red 73 Sebring Satelite, that he brought back the next day because it rattled so bad and got a 73 Ugly green charger.  I wonder if he had gotten the yellow bird I wanted, if I would have wrecked it shortly after my 16th birthday, like I did his Charger :shruggy:

agreed, and Darts ( not the big ones, I mean the A bodies ).

including first gen Barracudas/Valiants, although they have some charming somehow... somewhere :shruggy:. I like 65/66 darts though

mmmm mostly of Plymouths. I think in fact will be easier to me make a Plymouths list that I like.

73 and lates Darts although GTs could it be some exception, but the front end.

average, 60/65 period has lot of very bad examples of a good looking car, any brand, with maybe just the 64 sport fury exception

to some brand, I can include 59s too.

Wow, some suprising answeres here.

Mine,   Stock Early A Body Darts and Valiants, so ugly only a mother could love them.  But hot rodded up, they look pretty good.  Love the second gen Valiant, kind a cute little car.

4 Door 70 Coronets, they just dont look right.

72-74 Cudas they do look better than 72-74 Challengers though

Love the notchback cudas, something about that body line and how it flows into the fender line.

3rd gen Chargers, depending on the style, why did they make them with such a long nose?  A NASCAR thing?  sitting next to a 71-72 Plymouth they are the same length, but the Plymouth looks so much better.

73 and 74 Road Runners not so good looking.  Dodge Magnums are great looking cars, so much better than a Cordoba

73 and after Darts, dont like the formal looking style of them.

Manfred318

I like most classic MoPars. I wouldnt turn down any of 'em if the deal was right. Heres my list of the ones I dont particularly care for.

'64-'74 Barracuda and 'Cuda. Ive never really cared for them. I think they are all rather ugly in their own way. Would I turn one down? No, but it sure wouldnt be my first choice either.

'65 Belvedere/Satellite. The whole car looks odd to me.

'74-'76 Darts. Im not a huge fan of the pointy front end. I own a '75 and it drives and rides great, but its still pretty ugly in the front.

How about the old Chrysler land yachts? Anyone?

I grew up driving a big C Body Dodge. I love the big road cruisers.  Although some of them are too big.  Was it the 71 or 72 Chrysler or Plymouth, that was a huge car, a guy at my high school had one, it was bigger than my 64 Custom 880 Dodge.  Love the lines on a 67-68 Polara 2 drs, and the brutal looks of a 72? Monaco, the hidden headlight version.  I wouldnt mind a 67-68 Fury either.  But some of the earlier cars were hideous, 60-61 Fury for one, some of those late 50's early 60's Dodgess too

This is tough...because there are SO MANY I DON'T LIKE!!
1.  I agree, early Barracudas - firstly because they have that "tacked-on" greenhouse! The 67-69 versions were MUCH better looking!

2.  Any E body from 72-74 - That GAWDAWFUL sad mouth grille and the "Marty Feldman" tailights on the Challenger, the "Porky Pig" tail lights and shitty grille on the Barracuda, and don't get me started on those big rubber boobs! Everytime I see one of those cars I mentally strip the 72-74 components off of them and try to picture them as 70-71s.

3. Any and all Chrysler products from 1959-1963. I think they dropped the ball when they shelved the Hemi, and the styling!!! WHOOOAAA!!! Who knew marijuana was so prevalent in the styling studios of Chrysler!? I'm certain what's his name....was it Elwood Engel? or was it Virgil Exner that was an ALIEN??!! Frig! Who else would put a damned TOILET SEAT on the back of a car?? I remember being a little kid, and I mean four or five years old, and being totally disgusted seeing one of those cars driving by! And time hasn't changed my opinion!

4. 1966-1967 Coronets and Belvederes!! I really do dig the GTX and R/T versions of these cars - but those shitty rear wheelwells (which look like fender skirts!) really just ruins the effect for me! The 1966-67 Chargers really had it right! (Obviously the designers took a page from the 1955 Chevrolet Nomad school of thought!)

5. Pretty well ANY and ALL fourdoor Mopars can report to the recycle bin to be summarily stripped for parts!! And if you restore a four door car, consider yourself to be a LOSER! If you restore an A body four door, than you're a DOUBLE LOSER!
