  It's on a 72 Charger....It's maxed out....It has a new voltage regulator...What gives...Any danger here ?? I hate the word 'FIRE'...

Have you changed the alternator since the surge?

Did you change any wiring along with the regulator? Mechanical to Electronic?

If you wire to the low side of the ballast resistor the regulator will go wide open trying to make the voltage come up.

ok, two things to check... first... is some of the alternator brushes shorted to ground ? ( specifically the one you conected the green wire )

next... it is the green wire shorted to ground ?

next... it is the regulator good ?... the hardest part is the regulator, since only way to check it is replacing with another unit.

I think the "low side" what elacruze means is the low voltage side.

Did you have to fix some on the wiring ? I can't remember if you got some problem. The70RT talks like you did.

Also is your battery fully charged? Never try to charge an even partially discharged battery with the car....always use a battery charger first!

Guys, your hurting my intelligents (what little i have.. lol) ..It is a new battery.

b5blue

"Intelligence" is the proper spelling, a new battery should read no less than 13.5 volts on a meter, I'm fussy about where I get my new battery from as I've gotten old stock in the past. Now I get them from a local independent dealer who is a good friend also, were you here I would send you to him and we would have this figured out in a day.  :yesnod: Your smarts were NEVER in question, I repeat that comment constantly as a safety reminder.  :2thumbs:
