The only car that I haven't seemed to catch any grief over yet is the "Kowalski special" I'm building out of a '72 Challenger, but I can bet it's coming...I don't like "Hemi people", but That's not gonna cause me to tell them to park away from me and my GL...You know the ones I'm referring to here, so before every Hemi guy/gal on here gets their panties in a bunch, lemme splain...These types are the ones that come to the car shows in their "Store bought" Hemi car and have the balls to say things like this when you ask ANYTHING abouth their car.."Well, 'yknow, it's Hemi so you know it's fast"...or my favorite "Well, this ones got the "Big boy" motor, so your 540 C.I. stroker wedge can't hold a candle to my 425 HP HEMI!".............................

So you can't stand "Hemi people" because they all have an attitude, but yet people who in your eyes buy a car done are worthless.  Rriiiiggghtt.


I would guess it's a good thing I didn't try to introduce myself at Carlisle after we were done admiring your club's cars' cause I own a car with a Hemi & all the cars I've bought in the past 25 or so years had been painted before I bought them.

Now more recently, I painted the motor & engine bay in both current rides & other various things to personalize them but since I didn't perform a rotisserie doing everything myself, I'm not a real car guy according to you.

Actually 1/6th of the Union [ Northern ] armed forces was of German heritage or descent.  So it IS part of German American heritage to be in battle with/ against the Confederate rebel flag, plus the Pennsylvania Dutch are German ,also Lee was stopped from advancing in Gettysburgh PA --  just some nice trivia, basically unrelated to Mopars.

You tell 'em Mike, I guess we're in the same boat, I spent various hours on nights and weekends over many months putting together the Noble.
 But i didn't paint it....
You just never know, If i pulled up at a car show most would think i bought this exotic car with my excess playmoney -- not the truth -- which is i traded/ sold 4 cars + motorcycle, including a 'Cuda and Charger + took a big loan which i've busted ass paying off, in order to live that 'dream'.

I know why I would.
I wouldnt make a GL though... (well sort of... orange with 01 but no flag and will have my own custom wheels)... I just like the brightness of orange and the number is nice for a pro-touring build.

My Charger was destined to be a GL initially.
More for the sake of a charity rally me and my ex wife were going to enter.
Half way through the panel and paint we parted ways though (after 20 years together)
Once I got the car back and saw how nice she looked without the flag and numbers I decided to make a magnetic set for the odd occasion that we'd go to a show or cruise that way.
It's a bit of work bolting the pushbar on and off though.
I also remove the R/T stripe of course and put the GENERAL LEE decals on the roof since they look better than magnetics.
At the end of the day it all comes off again and I restripe the tail.
Best of both worlds

ok guys i got to know the difference. im not trying to be smart a$$ or a jerk, just not too hip on most of the thinking. i havent been here forever like a lot of people have and celebrated all the builds and such, so ive gone back and read a few to "catch up" on threads. i see guys take a real R T and turn it into a winged clone. change the brake system to something not original. go with a tube control arm. regear the rearend. suspension upgrades. fuel cells.all of which come to the applause of the group. i love it too. have enjoyed it all. but arent these all going against the grain when it comes to original? who gets to draw the line on whats acceptable and what isnt when it comes to alterations on these cars? why is it ok to cut up a nice 318 car but lets restore a rust pit RT? i took a 70 500 painted it a 2009 burnt orange took off the original mags and replaced with 15" wheels, painted a 68 RT tail stripe on it.got 69 charger front seats. am i now a criminal? or is it ok because they made more 500's so they can be changed as the owner wishes? this thread must matter to lots of people or it wouldnt have this many hits. i loved the 68 as it was in original dress. would have kept it like it was, but thats my own opinion. it was like my first car. but if we can weld a rear vega window to a real RT car, why cant we cut the wheel wells, or paint it orange or add disc brakes and air shocks and tinted windows? thanks for letting me vent.

I think it comes down to that we are way more favorible if its a basket case of a car that can never be return to orignal and is being save to some uses , then if people take a really nice un molested car and molest it

Yes that's generally the rule.  Basket cases lend themselves to more acceptance of modifications than survivors.  
 
And for most people, "molesting it" means "not doing what I would have done with it."  




The only thing that really gets me is when people cut up a nice 318 body to rebuild an R/T shell that's demolished with rust.  It's restoration by technicality.  The final product is physically an inferior item to what they would have had if they just swapped bodies.  IMHO a bodyshell that's been fixed with 500 lbs of asian repro sheetmetal & backyard MIG welds does not match an original factory surviving shell.

I can't believe the idiot who created this LX General Lee didn't even remove the side moldings (they are adhesive backed and come off easily) or hood decals. Besides, the color isn't even orange, it is more of a copper color.

That car would have definitely been better off left alone. I do think the LX Chargers look MUCH better without the side moldings and it's common for owners to remove them.
