We just had a new member join cc.com with some very cool MOPARS . . . below is this members 68 charger.  Looks great!  Blue with white accents . . love it.  Then farther down is what it now looks like . . .

Please don't get me wrong . . I love the general as much as everyone else but why take such a cool car and ??  Yes I know . . its his car and he can do what ever he wants but its just sad to me.   There are way to many GL's running around as it is . . . .

Although . . don't see that many 68 Generals . . .
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

the good news, i guess you can call it good, is that it can be brought back.  now the "why?"... cheaper i guess.

I never understood what drives people to make/buy a GL charger, is it the love of the DOH
or is it the car? :shruggy: Does it really matters if it's a Mopar under that paint and stripes?

What makes people want to buy or convert a Charger over to a General Lee is the same thing that makes people buy cars now that they couldn't afford in their youth.  It's the passion for the vehicle, but mainly, the thoughts and memories it brings back to them.  It lets people remember a certain time in their life that maybe was innocent, carefree, or simply, they just like the car and the image it represents.  I grew up with the Dukes, and it would be cool to have one just to see the reaction on people's faces as they recall their youth and old forgotten memories.  I don't think I'd ever change one over myself though.  I'm just not enough of a diehard fan to do that.  And for sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but neither are 22" wheels or something that's 1" off the ground, or even something that dances around the street with 25ft of hydraulic cables.  I think the car looked great the way it was personally, but if that's what he wanted and he didn't spend any of your personal money to do it, so be it. :icon_smile_big:

Hate to see a beautiful blue and white charger go the way of the clone but at least it's still on the road.

Sad that the "1" is on crooked.  :hah:

What a dope..... not to malign the GL fans, but why take a beautiful stock R/T and make it into a GL? Take a rusty 318 car and do that.... not a gorgeous R/T like he did! :slap:

Maybe i shoulda worded that differently..it wasn't really a series car I think it was a episode that sometimes had a crooked "1". Check this one out:

I watched the DOH on rare occasion but the whole thing didn't/doesn't do much for me........well. except for Daisy Duke. I'm of like mind with 68RRFlyer, convert a plain 318 Charger to a GL not a true R/T. That's a crime in my book just like jumping/destroying any Charger. Just my opinion.

Ok..mystery solved..I knew I reconized this car. Nelson is on the CGLFC site. It is a Lee 1 (as in the first) clone. Here is a link to his thread on the GL site.

Im building a General because its my all time favorite show and I love the car. I agree I wouldnt make one out of a RT or a SE car mine was just a basic 318 charger a great car to modify. The General Lee was what got me into mopars. Now I want another 69 a all orignal RT that way I can have the best of both. I dont think anbody should complain that somebody builds a General unless it is a RT or SE car or if it looks like crap Ive seen a lot of Generals that people throw orange paint on it and some decals that are not even close and they think thay have a great car. I have over $30,000 in mine and its not even done yet and everything on mine is series correct. I saved this car is was a piece of crap when I bought it.

bull

The old "at least a Charger was saved" argument does not apply here.

That strikes me as the perfect way to have both worlds. Good on you!
