Yeah, I know that it's not an "Aero" car  but I can't afford a Talladega.  I just thought that would be so cool to display Richard's greatest adversary next to my Petty clone.  She's in pretty good shape and will save me a ton of work.  Plus, it'll give something to do when I retire in 2 years, whoo hoo!

Looks like a LOT of fun.  You will now have the best of both worlds.

Ghoste

That will make for a great pair to display at shows.  :2thumbs:

Since I'm spending your money, yes I definitely think you should get one of those.  :D

Hey Phil..
Very cool... You can get the Superbird to tow the Ford.......... That way, you can have both at a show...........   Albeit, the Ford pulling the 'Bird might be better..

Where do you put the fuel in it?

that's killer.  AWESOME find!

I couldn't paint it anything but Pearson but it would be cool to do the Mario Andretti paint scheme from the Cars movie ;)

It has a racing fuel cell in the trunk.  If you go to the Ebay link there's a open trunk shot there.  I'll have to build a filler tube to the fender.

REQUEST:  Does anyone have photos or links to photos of the 1968 #17 Torino.  So far my searches haven't shown me me very much (it's tougher than finding detail shots of the aero cars!).  And yes, I'm willing to purchase them if they have he details that I need.

It might say it's a 68 Torino, but that's a 69 Talladega.

"Mario" in the movie is his 1967 Daytona 500 winning Fairlane.

Phil, I am sure I can help you on 1968 Pearson cars.    If you want them really quick, hop over to randyayersmodeling.com and the Darkside boys will post some pics up for you.

Thanks Doug, anything interior would really help.  One of the first places I went to was Randy Ayers site, what an awesome wealth of info!  My problem with them is that their search engine sucks (or I don't know how to use it properly).  I keep getting hundreds of hits no matter how I word it or quote it, and 90 % won't have any relation.  I guess the easiest thing will be post up and beg.

Hey, what's the deal with the "Darkside"?  I've been going there for years and I've never seen an explanation of  it.

Darkside as in "fade to black" or "where the sun doesn't shine" refers to the period of 1948-1972, largely forgotten by the modern NASCAR and its fan base.   They have a Darkside board there, and a Grayside board which is for cars and topics a little newer, 1973 up thru the 80's.    I thought the naming was pretty clever and appropriate.   Make sense now?

Post a photo of your car up there.  Some of them saw it for sale.   Just ask for some reference pics and they will post them up.    Interior is pretty much standard 68-69 Holman-Moody fare.   A real HM dashboard is unique in that it will have the removeable "glovebox" panel on the right side.   Ignition and other goodies go behind there.  This is John Craft's old '69 Cyclone, which will be typical of the look you want.   Photo credit: RM Auctions.

Also, you need to get Kenny Thompson to make you one of his real HM rear spoilers.  They are KILLER.   He made them back in the day as an HM employee.   I recently sold mine.   Kenny's work is incredible.

Thanks guys!  It will be a fun project after or during the Petty 'bird makeover.  All it takes is time & money, right?   :shruggy:

top three things to buy

hopelessly too huge cam with LOTS of overlap
headers and sidepipes
an old skool helmet

I think that just about covers it.
