Thanks guys!  It will be a fun project after or during the Petty 'bird makeover.  All it takes is time & money, right?   :shruggy:

top three things to buy

hopelessly too huge cam with LOTS of overlap
headers and sidepipes
an old skool helmet

I think that just about covers it.

Yeah, the radical  cam it needs!
It already has headers and sidepipes (they must be custom or handmade because there is no collector flange, welded in one piece & loud as hell with that big block!  :2thumbs:)
I have an old beat up plain white open face helmet with a mini-visor from the old days for the Petty 'bird (should I get two?)
I love the smell of nitro in the morning.

1968 would be a tunnelport 427 side oiler, not a boss.

Are the 427 and the 429 the same engine as it said 429 in the ad? :shruggy:

Nascar Grand National Fords in 1968 were running 427 FE engines.  The Boss 429 wasn't allowed until early 1969, at the same race the Spoiler II became legal.  Boss 429's are based on the '385' 429-460 engines.  That engine type wasn't available in a Torino until the 70 model year.  This car is painted and somewhat modified to resemble a G.N. Stocker, but it is in no way shape or form a [major class] ex stock car from what I see in the photos.

[It could be a local guys former stocker, but no bracing in the engine compartment to me says it wasn't a Nascar, USAC or ARCA car]
