Hey, Ed, the R6 HEMI 500 your purchased i'm assuming came from the same gentleman who sold a B5 blue HEMI 500 the year earlier right?

If that is the case, then no its not the one I have the buildsheet for. The R6 red buildsheet I have is for a car that ends in 411. Build date on the car is December 4th 1968. Its a HEMI auto car.

So how many of the original 500 (almost) are documented to still exist?

Did they really build 500?  I though there were more or less?

Depends on who you talked to... The number of 392 existed forever, then Mr. Govier stated there were 580+ I believe.. I still find that later one hard to believe.......  Dave , xx29nascar and Danny, 69_500 have collected a large number of C500 VIN's

I personally only have 161 VIN's. I recounted them this morning, I thought it was more, but there was 3 duplicates in my notebook, so I moved them all to correct pages and recounted them. One of these days I'll dump all the info into the computer so I don't have to sort the info by hand.

I've got a side question here, for all you 500's owners. Anyone know where the 500 emblem is supposed to go on the grille? I've seen them all over the place. Any diagram anywhere showing which one of the thousands of squares in the grille the emblems are supposed to be in? How far over from the head light is the edge of the emblem? Or anything?

69_500

Figured I'd throw a new 500 into the photo's. Here is a car under restoration currently.

chargervert

Dan, that looks like your car! Are you restoring yours?

69_500

Nope its not my car. I wish I was restoring my car. Its a gnetleman's car who I met at a car show last year. Only glaring difference's in his car when it is done and mine, is his has black interior, mine is white, and his is a factory A/C car.

Since Al is an original owner, I'd ask him.. I'm sure his placement has been dead on...  Most times, when taken off the original grille, there's slight markings on the grille caused by the installation of it.. So, is should be easy to replace in the proper position....

I was wondering about placement...  That would be good to know...

Ghoste

Looking at a pic of an unrestored car just now and the "500" rests just on top of the horizontal rib which is 4th from the bottom.  The last "0" butts up to the 5th vertical rib from the headlight, NOT including the one which touches the headlight.
Not an original owner though, so it can't be verified that the grille was never tampered with.

69_500

Anyway you can scan that pic for me Ghoste? I'm assuming I know which car it was taken of, and by the way when is that car going to auction?

Ghoste

That is the car  I happened to have a pic of on my desk but I have other C 500 grille closeups that I'm going to compare it with.  The car goes on the block the weekend of February 12th but I don't the exact day and approximate time yet.  I'll update you.  I finally got your other package mailed off too.  Only a week later than I intended. ::)

69_500

Thanks in advance for the package. I'm sure I'll sit and watch it over and over and over. Like a little kid in a candy shop, that is how I am when I get to see new material on 500's or daytona's.

69_500

Hard to see the 500 in this picture but there is one in it.

Second one is even harder to see the C500 but there is one in the picture.

Be sure to keep the tape rolling.  There are two episodes of Car and Track and then a secret bonus feature.

That funny thing about that magazine cover is that it says "2 70 HEMI Charger 500's". You would think they would at least get the year right.

Saw the Yellow one at the Mopar nationals 2 years ago. It was parked in the swap meet area, very hard to see, unless of course you spent the entire weekend just looking for C500's.
