How should I take care of the floor pan in my trunk 69 Charger R/T survivor without compromising it as a survivor.  The trunk is rusted and has  four areas completely though about 1" x 3" areas in separate places.  The cross member is OK and the side panels are good. Dave

Here's my opinion, feel free to disregard it.

Survivors in my opinion must be pretty pure. Tune-up parts, brake pads, rotors/drums, tires; OK. Wiring to fix failures, ok. Crash damage repair, OK as long as the original paint isn't disturbed beyond what's necessary to match. (on this point I figure a crashed fender shouldn't matter whether fixed in '70 or '10)
When you start replacing original sheet metal because it's rusted, it's no longer a survivor, it's restored to some degree. Trunk floor, or all four corners what's the difference? If the floor doesn't cause any structural issues, contain the rust and leave it in.  :Twocents:

that is what I have done with my 68. I have a few holes in mine but still put stuff in the trunk. I cleaned it up and painted it 10 years ago and its doing ok. I don't drive it in the rain.

Yeah and if you do a good job no one will know it anyway. You don't need weather, dirt and exhaust fumes coming inside. It's just gonna get worse.

Thats alot of thin metal. I would replace it.

Ghoste

Agreed.  I appreciate the survivor thing but sometimes there just isn't enough surviving to be worth worrying about.

depends on the use. if youre driving it alot i sure wouldnt wanna get rear ended. could get a lil more dangerous for any back seat passengers  :shruggy:

That pan is gone so it comes down to if you want a trunk or not? I know that It's only original once but what good is it if it's rusted out.

seeing rusted hunks of junk are good in their way. allows you to see just how old they really are and what the elements do  :coolgleamA: but they pretty much belong in farmers fields  :'(

in some ways i think people have the wrong end of the stick on 'survivors' they are worth having IF they are in reasonable condition due to fastidious owners from new  ;)
