I filled out tech sheets 4 days ago to 3 differate tranny shops to find out what stall converter I need, no response yet. Maybe some of you can help.

- I have a stroked 451, Eddie rpm heads witch had some work done flow 291 @ 600
- Eddie rpm intake dual plane ( might change it in near future to a single plane )
- Holley 850 d.p.
- 727 manual reverse valve body
- Comp cams lift 576 in / 582 ex, duration @.050 248 in. / 254 ex. centerline 110.0
- 4.10 gear, 28 x 12 x 15 tire
- Weight of car with me in it 3640
- Approx 535 hp
I drive the car on the street and also the track a few times during the season. The car hooks good right now I'm using a 3600 stall, best time 11.40 @ 122 average 60 foot 1.71

Thank you.

Sometimes it does take them a bit of time to get back to you.  Which shops do you inquire at?

I am sure Dynamic will recommend their 9.5 inch street/strip converter that Ron was  using successfully b/f the black pig's deconstruction  ;); and he was a BIG FAN of that converter and  I have a brand new one in its box sitting next to me, going into my car this off season.  I recall Ron stating that in his old 446 engine in his 68 Charger this converter would flash up to around 4000 to 4500 rpm at the track and feel like stock on the street until you mashed the pedal; and that converter would seem like a REALLY good fit for your set-up but let's see what the experts say.

I'm surprised Dynamic didn't get back to you.  SMR are likely on the road somewhere racing, they do great work but it is essentially a one man operation to my knowledge and he races.
As for TCI, that doesn't shock me at all.  Give A&A a shout as well.

Thanks Ghoste, I just filled a tech sheet.

Its been 9 days now, and I only received 2 emails out of 5 shops responded back to me on what stall converter I should run with my combo.

SMR suggested a 9 1/2" 4000 stall for $899 can.

ATI suggested a 8" 4800 stall for $891 us.

Whats going on, witch company is doing there home work  :-\, a 4000 to a 4800 that's a big difference isn't ?

You know how it is  you ask 50 Doctors or Lawyers their opinions on a matter in their area of expertise and you get 49 different answers!  :eek2:

I know Ron had alot of luck with the Dynamic 9.5 converter in his build similar to yours and with that big cam of yours could be the perfect fit as Ron's car stalled up I believe at 4000 to 4500 rpm at the track and that seems like a good place for you to be.

I will be building a VERY SIMILAR 446 to 451 ci 440 to your build this winter and will be running this same Dynamic Converter (9.5 inch) which gets really good reviews and is known for being very efficient, with good street manners, and an animal at WOT.  :2thumbs:

By the way I like that big stick your running in your engine  :coolgleamA: and I am looking at same type of cams right now. Is that a hyd flat tappet cam or  solid roller lifer cam or solid flat tappet?

Solid roller lifter cam

Nice, do you recommend the same type of cam for me (solid roller lifter cam) if I wanted to get my 69 Roadrunner running as fast as your Charger, instead of running a large hyd. flat tappet cam and if yes, why?  This will be car that only goes to the track once a year and will be driven on the street 99% of the time, but I want the fastest car I can build and i have a HIGH TOLERANCE for what is streetable (as my last 2 street car made 755 HP n/a 555 Big Block Pat Musi Chevy and 825HP, procharged (17 lbs of boost) forged engine in a modern corvette Z06)!

But yes, my first love with the old school muscle car are the 68 and 69 B-Body Mopars, and with the Chargers of course 68 through 70.

Yes I would recommend the same cam its great for the street and track, but thats me. solid roller cams make more power but they require a little more maintenance and a little more were and tare on some parts. Its up to you if you don't mind spending a bit more money and maintaining your motor, if your only going to the track once a year a hydraulic roller is a good choice also they make good power also and less wear and tare. My choice is XTREME ENERGY by Comp Cams.

Thanks Frank, I appreciate your input!

Right now I am seriously leaning towards a very high performance 11 to 1 pump gas 440, bored between .030 and .060, running Indy EZ Heads (to make some extra power over the Eddys) and a solid roller lifter cam similar to your to take advantage of the extra air flow and power I can make by running the Indy EZ Heads.  :2thumbs:

We shall see.

Now back to your Converter thread Frank, why don't you give Dynamic a call now and ask for Sean they usually answer their phone and Sean is very knowledgeable and will steer you in the right direction. Here is there phone if you don't have it handy.

Sean at Dyanamic Converter:

Good luck and thanks for your answering my questions on your threads no let's get back on track with torque converters!

Thanks I will try tomorrow.

I called Sean at Dynamic he reccomends the 9 1/2" 4200 stall on sale $595

I thought he was going to reccomend a 45 or 4600 flash stall.

This place being so dormant lately I my as well ask you did you decide what converter to upgrade to (if any as your car is running pretty darn good)!

Good decision I think you will be really happy with it.    As you know that's exactly the same converter that Ron ran in his black pig with its old 446 ci engine and Ron referred me to Dynamic, and I will also be running the EXACT same converter (sitting in my office right now) next car season 2011!  :2thumbs:
