Hi All,

Just surfing around eBay and I came across this NOS Hidden Headlamp Door. Found it interesting that the center section is painted black. I've owned several sets over the years and have never seen one finished this way before. Thoughts?

Here's a pic of my original one, sort of textured argent.

Mine was textured there as well.  Had to sand blast it to get it smooth.

interesting!

maybe some option for NON SE cars ? SE cars are normally fully trimmed, and on 72s you could get hideaways allmost on any model, so more argent/chrome on a non SE car maybe would contrast too much with the rest ?

1972Rallye

There's only one number listed in the parts book (3574028-9). Two different versions seem unlikely based on that...

I looked through all my pics and I only found one car with the black center band.  It's impossible to tell if it was ever modified...

Interesting reasoning on your part Nacho, the way Chrysler is known for variation between between model lines could be possible.

Thanks for the research 72Rallye, that's a beautiful looking car and I've always admired the R/T & the Rallye that you own.  :2thumbs:

Anyone have good scans of the original brochure? It looks to me like the paint "burns" off the high spots during driving. That textured area may have been the factory attempt to get the paint adhere better to a large, raised area that gets hit with lots of wind.

Daytona R/T SE

Both of my 72 Toppers are argent.

My 72 SE is argent.

The NOS grill section I have is argent.

Every other 72 I've owned has been argent.

My entire pile of extra hideaway headlight doors and grills are argent.
