As I'm sitting here at my desk, trying to run a multi-thousand dollar business, I seem to always be checking E-bay and Craigs list for any 2nd Gens for sale. I already have a 3rd gen '73 (which will never be for sale), and I got to wondering how many people shared my appreciation (read "love") for the '68 model Charger. I like the '69 (front grill) and '70 (continuous front bumper trim) but would rather have a '68, when all is said and done. Maybe it's the round side lights, and round taillights, or...?

So, on this Christmas Eve eve, which is your favorite, and why? Oh, and a Merry Christmas to all!  :yesnod:

The 1969 is my overall favorite, but the '68 is damn close. The only item I don't care for on the '68 is the taillights. They look like the designers were rushed and they just threw a set of trailer lights on the car. The '69-70 style seems to fit the body design.

I like 70's bestest...mainly because I own one. :icon_smile_cool:

Same here...not that I'd kick one out of my driveway, of course. ;D

Oh & Merry Christmas bak atcha! ;)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I love all three years, but my fav is a '69. I had one that needed a lot of work. I sold it because I didn't think I could handle the restoration. That was before I knew about this GREAT group of people that all started on the old D-C site. If I knew then what I have learned here, I'd never sold it. I see them in a heck of a lot worse shape then mine was getting restored here   :-\ It was a 383, 4spd car originally T-5 and a white top, tan interiour. I now think about it, Halpg might of been the ones that bought it ::) I'd sell my '72 in a heart beat to get another '69 4spd car :yesnod: I still am mad at myself for selling it :'(

This topic always ends up the same. How about a 3rd Gen poll, considering you are a 3rd Gen owner?

Ask me which model is the most desireable among collectors and I can easily answer. :icon_smile_wink:

I quess it's a toss up between 68 and 69 but I voted 68.....I own a 69..... ::)
I quess this means NYCMille will have to sell me his now....   :icon_smile_tongue:

This ticket is only $69.00 ?  If I'd have known that I'd have been going FASTER !

'CUDA360

I like the '69s. So many options and performance models that year.  If I were to pick one I would say the '69 500 is my favorite,,,,,, HEMI of course

Of course 1970 is the best!
Here are just a few reasons why it bumps the others    :bump:

Pistol Grip Shifters  (nuff said)
High Back Bucket Seats  (sweet)
Six Pack Options!  (Shazaaam!)
High Impact Colors  (yep)
Gator Grain Tops  (cooool)
Hood Call Outs!  (Can ya hear that?)
Locking Steering (key in) Column  (safe ,secure & modern)
Lowest production numbers (oh yeaaaaah!)
Buddy Seats,Electric headlight doors, etc, etc, etc. and the list goes on!

Plus they just look mean!  :yesnod:

1969.

Always loved the look of the 68's. Dunno why but they just do it for me. (And because I own one ;D )

Right now I will vote 1969 because it is the only one I own that is done.  :icon_smile_big:

Truthfully, I like all 2nd generation's about the same because each has it's own unique features.  I found the '69 by chance when I was looking and it could have easily been a '68, '69, or '70.

My brother in law and I are going to restore his '70 383 4 speed and dad has a '71 so we have a pretty good line up anyway.

Next one on the WANT list I is a special '74 SE I have been eyeing that needs my TLC.  :yesnod:

1968 Charger 383 auto
1969 Charger R/T 440 4 speed
1970 Charger 500 440 auto
1972 Challenger 318
1976 W200 Club Cab 4x4 400 auto
1978 Ramcharger 360 auto
2001 Durango SLT 4.7L (daily driver)
2005 Ram 2500 4x4 Big Horn Cummins Diesel 6 speed
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7 Hemi

Add the R/T door scoops, the better interior (high back seats) and it's hard not to say 1970.
One reason to like the 69's is the fact that you could get a Charger, a Charger 500, or a Charger Daytona. Three models that were so different yet based off of the same car. Tough choice!

Well, all the 70 stuff can be put on a 69, no problem. I know from firsthand experience.

How about a 69 body ( chrome trimmed blacked out tail panel with the crome trim around the tail lights) with a 68 grille (clean styling and the   same small bumper as 69) and a 70 interior with those comfy high back buckets and buddy seat. The perfect 3rd Gen, the best of every thing!!!! Truth be known, I only own a 70 because it's the first decent one I found in my price range back in 99. Could   just as easily have been a 68 or 69. Though if I did get a 68, I'd have to lose the ugly   instrument cluster for one from a 69. Those ridges remind me of Ruffles potatoe chips. Not crazy about the tail lights either.

Troy

1968 of course! They put a GTO grill on them in 1969 and then smashed it into a wall to restyle it for 1970. I suppose they must have ran out of the coolest taillights ever sometime around the end of the 68 model year too. :D

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

TheGhost

It varies.  Some months, it's the 70.  Currently, it's the 68.  Never the 69, it's nice, I just don't like the I piece in the grill, clutters it up IMHO.  68 tailights/sidemarkers are the best, but, I like the 70s options/grill more.  Maybe take a 68 body, with a 70 interior......
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

68 for me.... those round tail lights and side markers look real good imo

ouch!!! The best part about the 70 loop bumper is that you can lean over the front end of your car and not worry about your grill gettting cracked or damaged.

Blakcharger440

Oh yeah, plus 1970 is the year you want when doing a Daytona clone! It converts the easiest!

Khyron

1969, but for a lot of the same reasons listed before. First love of the Charger we of course the GL. Also I love the front end. The 68 Tail lights always bothered me, Don't know why, they just do. and I just don't like that loop. Sorry 70 owners.
