I met Phil Jackson at the show Saturday afternoon and we talked his car being the only vinyl top Daytona(dealer installed and the most highly optioned Daytona)very nice ride! So later that night...I;m sitting on the tailgate of my truck drinking a cold one watching the Burnouts and see Phil pull thru the parking lot like he's just cruising thru and then this!!!!!!!!!! ......... You Da man

Here's more obscure history that no one cares about.  The green Hemi Daytona was originally owned by an English teacher at my old high school in Scottsdale Az.  At the time the car had a 70 charger front end on it and a dealer installed white top.  Since there was no air and its REALLY HOT here, the white top was probably installed to help the interior stay a little cooler.  She sold the car the year before I started high school ('77)  to a local politician.  He died unexpectedly in his early 40's from a heart attack.  The car then went to Jay S. up in Denver.

Burnouts in the DoubleTree parking lot. Who would do that to a wing car?  :icon_smile_big:

It was way cool I was in total awe.  What about that Hemi TA Challenger with the exhaust dumps,  Him and the pick up were battling for the burn out title that night :2thumbs:

I'm very familiar with the car from the mid-70's, but in the most recent pictures I saw, the vinyl top had been removed.  Now it's back on, and I was curious as to when it was added again, or re-grown. :shruggy:

Speaking of wing cars doing burnouts, here's an old picture of Paul Verdin who lives here in town and has owned his 'Bird since '71 I believe.  He used to race this thing all over town.  Ever now and then it's cool to see cars driven like they were made to! haha  This picture was taken in '75.  Notice that, unlike most B5 Blue cars, this one came with black letters.  He told me this was one of the last pictures taken of the car before the vinyl top was removed.

Hay Bruce,  I had talked to Phil last year and sent him some pictures of the Daytona with the vinyl roof.  He said he was going to do it.   He installed it a couple weeks before the St Louis show.

I didn't have a line lock so I just went old school funny car style burnout to half track.  ;D  that was such a teaser. are you ever going to put a nasty exhaust on ? like some jet hot headders with stainless pipes out the back?  i swear with headders it will uncork the power big time.   as you know when on the road  that thing just wants to go faster , punch it at 60 in 2nd and it screams to 110 real fast. best tom

I plan to install 3" exhaust with electric cutouts that run to a pancake side exhaust in front of the rear wheels. I'll have the pancake exhaust powdercoated black to blend in. I can't beleive how nice this car sounds with this old, small exhaust. I can't wait to hear it with the new exhaust.
We took some friends out in the bird for a drive last night after dark for a couple of hours. You should see how this car looks at night going down the main drag downtown under the street lights. I would love to have a video. People kept yelling at us everywhere we went. My friends couldn't get over the attention that this car gets. I told them to get used to it if they were going to run around with us.

Larry  What kind of headders are you going with??   The problem with unleashing the power of the bird engine has always been the exhaust.  It is a .30 over with trw pistons and ported and polished heads ,it was built with the strongest bolts and best parts / thats why it runs so good.  But as you know  it wants to go faster but can't expell the exhaust fast enough.

I looked at schumacher headders and a couple others with the jet hot coating. the headders that guarantee fitting a mopar without bending ar beating them into place. I like the ones where the flange is up high so theirs no chance of getting the flange caught on something. Boy  if you get headders and new exhaust on, that baby is going to perform like nobodys business.  and then the passion 4th gear will be icing on the cake.  I am so happy sandra and you are enjoying the car .
It truly does get more attention than any other car and its something that you have to get used to. I remember pulling up to a red light catty corner in next lane behind a car and a kid about 8, was looking out the rear side window his eyes got as big as saucers and he was leaping around and pulling on his moms arm trying to get her to look at the bird. Then I flicked the airgrabber switch and the door slowly opened the kid went nuts but his mother still would not look over. As the light turned green and she turned left And I went straight the kid had his eyes glued to the car.  That bird makes people go nuts in some strange way. I even got pulled over by the cops so they could look at it, they apologised then asked  me to pull up the hood!

heres something for everybody to look up. just google this exact term (KETCHIKAN KRUZERS PLYMOUTH SUNBIRD)  a reporter called it a sunbird. you all will see some pics at a local car show  and my friends black 70 charger that has a built 440 it is actually a factory sublime car. i cut the hole in the hood and painted it over 25 years ago.
