On the Dukes of Hazzard, have y'all noticed how the front end buckles when it comes down from the jump? :coolgleamA:  And then it sort of limps away? :icon_smile_cool: I was watchuing a rerun yesterday and it looked like it bent the front end pretty severe. I wonder how many Chargers got destroyed in that series? :2thumbs:

I heared there were almost 300 destroyed in the 7 seasons they shot the series.

There are a couple different official numbers but I don't believe any of them.  There were car suppliers reselling wrecked cars back to the studio with swapped VINs at one point.  And the show really didn't jump & scrap Chargers that much during the first couple seasons.  The last season used a lot of miniatures.

I might guess 100-130 Chargers totalled.  Plus another couple dozen GLs surviving in one form or another.

GL#10

Hey

The true number of Chargers used will never been known , in the end and during production alot of cars went into  other shows/Movies  being filmed at the time .

The blue charger in the W.W  deal was redone for actor Ken Whal for a short lived series called Double Dare , they where going to give him some old dog pie chevy ,he said he wanted a mopar, so they redone a Gl  .

Did they ever sell GL #1 that they found and rebuilt? I saw the build info from when it was located but never heard what it sold for.

Lee1 is with the owner,  I have heard a great many story's from very very good resourced people about that car. A guy on ebay (I won't mention his name) that sells the dvd's BUT there is a big part missing from the dvd.. That part is after they remove the roof with all it's markings on and the car has no roof and then the next shot the car is all in primer with a roof on it. There is no footage of what happen to the roof at all or if it's the same roof to begin with. The guy was over seeing the restro work for the owner that owned the car. Far as I know the owner still owns the car and it is with him down south. Lee1 was featured on Power Block on TV and was talked about and what all had happen to it during it's jump back in 1979.

It never fails to amaze me that everybody talks and talks about how many Chargers were torn up during the filming of the most famous Car ever concieved. The most famous Dodge Charger on the planet...When you crunch the numbers, what were the numbers like in total production in 1968-1970 Chargers? Like 60K in '68, then another 40-60K in '69, and prolly 40K in 1970...That's almost 200K Chargers in a 3 year run..Yet, the Dukes only tore up 300 in 7 years, and made one of the most iconic star cars of the 20th century..Got most of us when we were around 8 Y/O into Mopars.

I remember asking my Pop when I was around 8, What kinda car it was. Of course, he got it almost right when he said "1969 Dodge "Daytona" Charger", but All I needed to hear was DODGE CHARGER, and I was hooked forever...I had every buddy of mine tell me I was making the BIGGEST mistake of my life painting a Charger up like that....He was wrong...Best decision I ever made. Course, Mine gettin' more Attention thn his '69 R/T, 440 4-speed car helped i guess.
