Ok, I know I'm not anywhere ready for the grille yet but was wondering from all you restorers where are you all getting your 69 charger grilles?

I have read about the TX repro. grilles and the trouble some are having......... Seems pretty hit and miss you would actually receive it.

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Don't even think about it.   :o :rotz:
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I just wonder why the grille isn't being reproduced by a reputable company or companies?

What about the fiberglass flip front ends, some people have told me to go that route but I just don't know if I'm sold on that idea.....

THE COLONEL

I would suggest just getting one restored.  That is what I did, and I think it probably cost less then me getting a new one.  Some of these guys do a hell of a job!

To reproduce just the headlight bucket portion of the grill correctly someone would need to create the proper injection mould and that would cost in the neighborhood of $40k (I checked). Add to that the other side and the center piece, plus the headlight doors and you can imagine the total cost. After that you start pumping the parts out for probably 80 cents a piece but it's that initial $40k investment that tends to discourage things.

At least one company (possibly two) started on the grills but halted when it looked like Premier would beat everyone to it. The tooling (to make them right) is about $150k and then you have to pay for production. The next closest company to getting them done is strapped for cash with the current state of the economy and grills are on semi-permanent hold.

I just bought one from Rod and as far as i'm concerned he is the best grille restoration guy in the business.
