I have switched, the starter Relay box, and ignition switch and made sure the transmission wires are hooked up.. Floor dimmer is grounded as well.  I do have Electronic igintion.  I can get it to start by using a pair of pliers to the starter relay box under the hood....HELP.

ACUDANUT

I have done this also : Next time it fails to turn over with the key hold the key in the Start position while cycling the shifter between Park and Neutral, if it then turns over there's a problem in the NSS or the linkage
Still won't crank.

ACUDANUT

I do have a few wires under the hood that go no-where to go that have power to them... One is a black wire (cut) and 2 oranges wires that I can't figure out where they go to.

Nacho-RT74

not crank...

mmmmm

a not cranking engine has nothing to do with ignition. just directly starter motro, starter relay or related wires.

you need to get 12 volts at START on yellow wire.
Need to get 12 volts from batt at stud
G terminal at relay grounded... Jumped or from tranny/clutch pedal
If everything of these are in order, will get 12 volts output at SOL terminal.

If not, relay or related wires problem

If yes, then check for 12 volts arriving at SOL in starter motor when ign in START

have you directly jumped the starter motor terminals underneath the car ? an screwdriver will work... will get sparks, don't get scared.

( BUMMER ME, :brickwall:  YOU ARE SAYING YOU MAKE TO START WITH SOME WIRES AROUND LOL )

Thats what I undestrand by NOT CRANK

about the wires laying around... will need to check for diagrams

What yellow wire ?. I have done everything else... as stated. Thanks, Mike

Nacho-RT74

it must be a yellow wire coming from bulkhead up to the starter relay. It comes directly from ign switch. Only powered in START...thats the relay trigger... plugs into the IGN prong at relay

Okay, that yellow wire has low voltage going to it when I am not Cranking.  :shruggy:

Nacho, I saw/found your dash wiring diagram.  Do you have a engine diagram posted somewhere ?

As a matter of fact, all 4-5 wires going to the starter switch (under the dash) has power, when not cranking.  Something tell me that somewhere under the hood has power when it shouldn't.  Hint...that black wire should have no power going to it.  :shruggy:

I think I am using a 72 Engine wiring harness.  Do you have a link for that ?

Nacho-RT74

72 engine ( with points or ECU setup diff ) and forward lighting harnesses should be the same I think. Just Tranny and Underdash changes

IGN switch could get powered in allmost all wires due the ballast power splice.

Originally, red wire is of course allways powered. Is the main power.

Then BLUE AND BLACK get power just in RUN. BLUE is engine power, BLACK is accesories to fuse box

Then YELLOW AND BROWN get power in START. BROWN is Ballast bypass to coil, YELLOW is JUST starter relay.

what does happen to get allmost every wire powered ? when you conect the ballast you are splicing together blue and brown through it. You will get in RUN the blue wire 12 volts and brown 4 to 9 volts.

In START, is reversed, brown getting 12 volts and blue 4 to 9 volts. Thats why the brake light in cluster dims. because this light gets power from BLUE circuit in RUN. Then in START gets the power back from Ballast, with the logical decay. NOTE: ECU gets power also in this position on the same way than the brake light on cluster, with power decay, due the ballast.

However, BLACK and YELLOW only must get power on their right positions, Black in RUN and Yellow in START.

FIXED.  I had to find the correct Ceramic voltage plug in and the Transmission switch would not ground properly.  Thanks a Million.
