I remember seeing an '68, 6 cyl. 3 speed, light green on eBay back a couple of years ago. It looked like a complete original car that needed restoring, but complete. If I recall correctly it ended around 5-6K. There was a '69, 6 cyl. 3 speed, white with blue interior for sale locally about 9-10 years ago for 4k, that seemed like alot back then, now wish I would have bought it.

Three on the tree is rare 'cause it was a crappy option. Poor choices in '68 don't add value in 2010.

I don't know how many 68 Charger /6, three on the trees are known, but I have personally seen two of them in the past 20 years in the midwest.  Both were needing restored (and were not this car), so I feel the number known is probably higher than that.  One was up in rural SD, sitting right next to a 68 Hemi Charger RT in a well hidden shop.  That owner had contacted GG to document the car after seeing a one known listing in the white books (about ten years ago).  The other one was a stripped partial shell in a junkyard (rusted to death), but which yard I do not remember.  I could have bought it, but turned it down as it was just too rough to mess with (hard to believe if you know my other projects).......

As for price, many people are put off by the /6 option, yet like rare options on Chargers.  This leads to a bit of a quandary as to their values.  It really depends upon the type of collectors that are currently in the market.  Custom builders and hot rodders will not pay extra for a /6 car due to the lack of power, so they tend to drag the value down.  Number collectors and factory purists would put a premium upon the same car due to oddity.  One thing for sure: they just did not survive like other Chargers.  Back in the day, they usually became junkyard or hot rod fodder.  Far fewer original second gen /6 Chargers are left than six pack or hemi Chargers....

I remember my kid brother looking at a white one in about 1971.  68, three on the tree and a six cylinder.  They were just used cars back then.  He bought a Polara 500 instead.

That is the sad part of this, most owners only thought of them as daily drivers (much like you would a new Honda today).  Since they were just a means to get places, many of them rusted out way before their /6 gave out.......

There is an ad for the 1970 versions that lists the bottom price for a base /6 Charger at $3,001.00.  That ad helped get people into the showroom where they usually got a bigger engine Charger.....

I have one that I'm restoring right now.
According to GV Govier they made 4 and he knows of 3 of them.

Mr.Sixpack

It's black with black interior, it was a piece of junk when I bought it.
I have put in new trunkfloor, both rear quarter's and one door.
The transmission was destroyed and so was the rear end, but the engine worked even if it was only on 5 cylinders :icon_smile_big:

After my PC crashed I've lost many pictures.

Mine was originally a 318 with a 3 on the tree, Going to be a 440 with probably an A512 on the console.

Black now, but it looks like you were correct tt, green at one time.

Mr.Sixpack

Yes that green paint was scary, you could not wash or wax the car, your hands turned green :eek2:
Don't know what paint they used on it, but thank good I had Galen G decode the car and it was built black :yesnod:
The green paint was not applied very good, it was black everywere in door jams, trunk and under the hood.

Old thread revived

Possibly there were more than the 3 or 4 built.
My old retired neighbour was a motor mechanic and he swears that he had seen slant 6 68 Chargers for sale at a dealership somewhere close to Taumarunui ( mid North Island ) here in New Zealand in the late 60's. I've asked him about it a few times and his answer is still the same.
He is a straight shooter and I have no reason to doubt what he says

Can anyone shed any light on any /6 export models??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Slant-6_engine

2-barrel carburetion[edit] Export 2-barrel setup
Air cleaner decal from Australian-market 1967-'70 2bbl Slant-6 installed on US-market 1976-'79 2bbl setupFor the 1967 model year, a 2-barrel carburetor setup was released for export production. This configuration, similar to that found on marine G-engines beginning in 1965, consisted of an iron intake manifold with open-plenum 2-barrel carburetor mounting pad, a Carter BBD carburetor, and associated air cleaner, linkage and plumbing changes. Also installed on these export 2-barrel engines was a slightly hotter camshaft (244° duration rather than 240°), and a distributor with modified advance curves. This engine, rated at 160 bhp (120 kW), was popular in Central and South America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Driveability characteristics were generally superior to those of the 1-barrel engine, but to avoid cutting into sales of the more expensive V8 engine, this 2-barrel setup was not offered in the North American market. Of particular note is the automatic choke design found in this export 2-barrel setup. Most Chrysler products used remote automatic chokes, with a bimetal coil spring mounted on the exhaust manifold, exposed to exhaust heat and operating a pushrod which rotated the choke lever on the carburetor. The export 2-barrel setup used an integral heat-tube style automatic choke: Air heated by the exhaust manifold was routed to a round bakelite housing on the carburetor air horn, which contained a bimetal spring acting directly on the choke lever.

Old Dog, Old Tricks.

I suspect there were more, just like the 318 and a 3 speed on the column. 5 years ago there was 6 that were known and I know i've seen at least that many on ebay in the last 4 or 5 years and I still have mine.

The additional two years hasn't made a 3 speed slant six any more valuable. Gawd, that thing must be a dog.

There are way more than Galen's number. Others here have seen them. I knew where one was 8 years ago. The original owner still had it and it was rotting away in his yard. For all the sightings over the years, it had to have some sort of significant numbers made.
