Need help from anyone south of the equator?

Anyone south of the equator can help me settle an argument with a friend.....when you flush a/your toilet does the water swirl clock wise or counter clock wise?  He said it must go opposite to those in north of equator, I say that is a myth. My swirl is counter clock wise and I think it is how the toilet is designed not the effect of Earths rotation. Hypothetically speaking according to his theory it would mean somewhere on the Earth's equator in perfect positioning there would be no swirl at all.

The Coriolis Effect has zero to do with the direction water spins in a toilet.  Here's some onfo on the Coriolis deal itself if you care to read on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_effect
the swirl in your toilet is determined by jets of water filling the bowl and/or the shape of the drain, or........ for those who just cannot let it go, we'll call it the Coriolis Fairy

to recap... the direction of water flow in your toilet does not have anything to do with what side of the equator the toilet resides, it's simply a myth.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I live in Brazil and when I flush my toilet the water moves clockwise, but I don't think it has anything to do with the geographic location, but with the installation itself.

Darkman

I live in the land Down Under, and all of the toilets I have seen do not "swirl" when flushed. More like a "wave" of water from the front to the back of the bowl and down pushing the waste through the pipes. Most of the sinks and bathtubs I have seen have swirled clockwise. You have me curious now, when I drain the bath after the kids, I will watch what the water does
