Fellas- I'm sorry to say this, but Coach Dungy's eighteen year old son, James, was found by his girlfriend, dead in Tampa.  No foul play was suspected, though the authorities have not ruled out suicide.

If I were a bettin' man, I'd say that's probably what happened, sad to say.

He handed over interim coaching to his assistant, more than likely for Saturday's game against Seattle.  My parents who live in Muncie, Indiana broke the terrible news to me and I immediately turned on the NFL channel and ESPN news on Dish for the latest updates.

The next two games, truth be told, are not important to me, and I dare say- to the Colts as a whole.  It's when the playoffs begin, that's when things will turn up.  I don't see the starters go out onto the field until then anyway.  Especially Coach Dungy, with his family tragedy.

My prayers go out to him, his family and the team.

Me too...after all, how would you like to go through life with the last name of Dung? :D

Seriously though, that really sucks. No matter who it is, I feel bad for their family to have this happen so near to what is supposed to be the most joyous time of year. :-[

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

That's pretty tragic, and a lousy time of year for it to happen as well. Press isn't saying much, so it sounds like maybe suicide or drugs involved. My sympathies go out to the family.

Man life isn't fair sometimes.  I like Coach Dungy.  Being a Minnesota Viking Fan I hated to see him leave our team.

They just said on the news that Coach Dungy's eighteen year old son killed himself. It is confirmed. And that Coach Dungy has left the Colts indefinitely now.

Man, bad news for the Colts.  My heart goes out to Coach Dungy.  Thats got to hurt pretty bad.  What a shame.

Sad news indeed.

One thing that has me wondering...they said on ESPN that his girlfriend decided to take a walk at 1am, and at 1:30am she found him dead. Who goes out for a half hour walk at 1am? Very strange if true. ???

One guy said they wouldn't be surprised if Dungy retired. I think that's a crock. No way this guy would retire because of this. I think he'll be back after this week and his team is going to play even harder for him.

Big Lebowski

Wow, after the Charger victory, things really got screwed up, that's sad.
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

Definately sad news. I admire Tony Dungy great coach. Sad news.

I personally don't see Coach Dungy being at Seattle at all, maybe not even back in Indy for the Arizona game next week.   But I'll bet he makes it back for the playoffs!

This tragic event won't make him turn in his retirement paperwork.   Not at all.   I've not heard anything at all about his desires for retirement.

I have to say though, that Saturday's game is going to be one where none of the Colts are really "there", if you know what I mean.   Their hearts and minds will be with Coach Dungy.   Not only that, but the starters will be on the sidelines for sure.

I had a feeling when I first heard the tragic news about James' death, that he had to have taken his own life (read my opening thread).   The way the news was trickling out, it sure sounded as if he did, since no foul play was evident.   Usually when they say that "cause of death won't be determined until an autopsy is performed".   That kind of statement just screams suicide.

this is real sad. I think Dungy is a great coach and a class act all the way around. I would not be surprised to see Dungy retire. NFL coaches spend an extrordinary amount of time away from their families. It wouldnt be surprising if Dungy felt guilty that this would not have happened if he had spent more time with his son.  He has 4 other kids, so i wouldnt be real surprised if he decided to retire and be closer to and more involved with their lives.
