once again, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED !!??

other than the fact it looks like it stole some design ideas from the new vette, that is 1000% better than what they put out!!

how do you stray that far from a concept and still put the charger badge on it??

When I saw the car at the nats in '99, I told the chrysler guy " put me down for two, one for me and one for my wife".
The following year they added those extra two little saturn style doors and I said "keep the damn things".
I knew that it was all over in 2000.

That's a bunch of crap in my book.  They supposedly went to the trouble and expense of making all the body panels on the Charger different from the 300.  If they were going to do that, then why not go farther?  If G.M. can wedge a 350 cu. in V8 under the hood of the Corvette with its low profile, then DCX could have done similar with the Charger, even on the new LX platform.

The current car is nothing more than a re-skinned 300 (which is no news to anyone here).  Because of that, it doesn't matter to me how good the car might be in respect to comfort, handling, power, etc.  It's just another "also ran" due to the style.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

That '99 Concept Charger R/T was baised on the older LH platform, (Intrepid, LHS/Concord/ 300M) which was originally designed to be front rear or four wheel drive.

When the Germans "STOLE" Chysler Corp. they scrapped all the product plans except the Pacifica which was too close to production (so they delayed it 18 Mos to make it safer and score higher in the "Star" saftey tests. (Gee,.. I wonder why it's sales are lackluster)?...  :rotz:
and substituted old mercedes E-class rear wheel drive components, Suspension links, seat frames, switch gear and electrical components and steering for the next generation Chrysler designed full-size platforms... think three yr. old E-class.

As a result the entire product line is now built either with Mercedes rear wheel drive or Mutsubishi front wheel drive input. and all the models are at least two years later to market then they would've been.

 FYI:
this is probably more then you wanted to know, but,..

If ya' call up "Google" on your computer Click "Images"  input "Charger" '99 Charger", "Concept Charger", "Charger Concept", "Show Car Charger"... etc...

Well, there's this loser (I won't name names) we'll call him VP of Daimler Chrysler Trevor Creed. He decided against what is commonly referred to as, common sense. He IMO, disgraced the good name Charger with his boring 4 door Intrepid replacement. He's an Idiot, for more reading on Mr. Creed...Click on this highly rated Moparts thread...

I sometimes wonder how much Creed actually had to do with it.  I think it was a committee built family car to replace the Intrepid and marketing determined that "Charger" was a good recognizable name to continue their cash in on history program.  Then, the name was stuck on the new mid size family car and Creed became the point man in the public relations gaffe when he tried to defend the styling.  He likely saw it and may have even made suggestions prior to it being named, but I often wonder if he ever really took a pen to paper (an expression, I know it's all cad-cam)on it.

Pete, they couldn't have stole the design...the 99 Charger concept was done long before the new Vette was even a twinkle in the eye of GM.

Don't like threads about it?   Don't read them.

It's too idealistic of a concept to work.   :icon_smile_big:

Yeah that car is gorgeous! And to top it off it actually looks like a Charger! Well the overall design, and the taillight panel, not so much the grille. But it definitly looks more muscular and sporty than what's currently out there. I don't know anyone who would take the current "Charger" over this 1999 concept Charger.

It's easy to spot the problem with the 99 concept.  It has the throwback looking double diamond like profile and door scalllop.

Pistolpete

wow, this has thread has taken on a life of its own! I just wanted to see pics of what could have been!

I wonder if they plan on any drastic changes on the eventual (inevitable?) re-syling??

I mean common snse would tell these guys there must be a market for muscle cars, outside of the new mustang and the skyrocketing prices of muscle cars isn't this supposed to be the generation with more disposable income due to the retiring/passing on of wealth from the baby-boomers??
