I never saw a lift with a Craftsman name before, but I'm sure it's re badged like all Sears' merchandise. I wonder who the manufacturer was?

That would be enough to make me sick - moreso if I happened to be under it at the time. Everyone here should know how much time, effort, money, passion, etc. goes into one of these cars (no matter what the brand) and to see something like that is just painful.

I hear ya. Even though it is a Chevy who hear wouldn't take a first gen Camaro if the deal was right  I would take the right one over a first gen or third gen Charger....

I wouldn't go as far as taking a camaro over a first or third gen Charger in the same shape, but thats just me.  I have had several 3rd gens and still have the WannaBee.  I love the look and the way they drive.  I have had a few 1st gens.  Nothing in show shape, but there is not a better designed interior on any classic car

   "They" tell you to drop the lift on the safety dogs before you do anything under the car. If the cable became disconnected for some reason and the weight of the car wasn't supported on the stops I could see  that  happening unfortunately.  Some people here seem to feel its funny when it happens to the other guy and thats sad.

I'd take a 67 camaro hugger orange slight rake in the back with some 28 inch tall drag radials on weld draglites with a blower out the hood.

Some people here seem to feel its funny when it happens to the other guy and thats sad. 

I think the jokes are in good fun. I don't think anyone here is really happy about a situation like this happening to someone, regardless of the brand. It's kinda like watching a guy get kicked in the nuts, makes you cringe and feel that phantom pain for a second but you can't help but crack a joke about it.

Btw, I don't think if that was a Mopar on it's side that the Ford and Chevy forums would be talking about sending flowers!

Highbanked Hauler: since no one got hurt (big assumption but reasonable), and it's all fixable, and the guy should have insurance (again I assume), and he might even have a lawyer and a case here (assuming), yeah I think it's ok to see the lighter side of it all. Life's just too short to take everything seriously every minute of the day.

I agree, not funny if there was pain and suffering, but then again the car damaged wasn't life and death. Or else the pic would not have been published had there been a crushed human underneath.

And I've been in some bizarre messes, sometimes my own doing, so I earned the right to laugh a little at the situation (I'm not laughing at the owner, only he gets do that at some future time and place). F 'ing up on my own turf means being able to laugh at other f 'd-up situations.

I wonder if it came down fast or kinda lazily went lopsided and then eventually fell And yeah, wouldn't there be some sort of locking mechanism that would prevent that very thing from happening??

I'd say it came down fast. If the arm(s) snapped (or didn't lock) the car would drop quickly on one side, fall sideways and, once in freefall, would likely be rotating around its center of gravity (counterclockwise in the picture). If it came down slowly the car would tilt until the angle was too great and then slide sideways towards the low side post pulling the high side off the other arm(s). At this point it would probably then drop flat. Just a guess of course...

Yes, there's supposed to be a lock/safeguard but they sometimes break or don't engage fully.

the car landed so flat on the side that it didnt even dent or damage the hood but must have taken the windshield off?? im looking but cant see a windshield post or nothing that would be part of a top of the car. wouldnt we be able to see something??

That is a bad deal ...i wonder if one of the hydraulic lines failed ,and as was mentioned earlier the lock dogs werent engaged ..thus causing the car to fall....either way ...bad deal...


As far as (cheapo lifts)Im guilty ...i bought one ... ATLAS pro #9000 two post ,,It was 1800 bucks (not cheap to me lol) but i do the regular maintanance.and check everything out once every week ...its served me well so far!! Ive lifted my charger (of course) ...the old ford heavy half ton and my brothers 79 bronco (heavy!) without incedent but again once a week ill check nuts/bolts/welds/cables/lift arms etc...just because it was the cheaper brand ..they are very nice to have ...but they can kill ...your car...or worse yet yourself!!!

    My reason to come down a little heavy comes from wrecking my 500 returning from Carlisle in the second time out with the car. I didn't have collision on the car because the last accident I had was in 1975 and I had just finished the car, wrecked and no money to fix it so my ass was real sore because  someone else was wrecking ahead of me and I got caught up in it and hate to see someone else that could be in the same situation, thats all.
