Pic of where shift levers will be while 4speed trans is in neutral?

Could somebody post a pic of where the 833 4speed shift levers will be while the trans is in neutral? I think my trans is stuck in between gears and I need to get it back into a gear or neutral. I have heard that a 4speed getting stuck in between gears is common?

Hey Supercharged your tutorial is great and helped me figure out exactly what the problem is. My trans is stuck with 1st gear and 3rd gear engaged at the same time.

I took the shift rods off and I have tried to move the shift levers back into neutral by hand but they will not go.What tool did you use to get the shift levers back into neutral?


I also notice that I have the shift lever with the bend in it located on the 1&2nd position...while I noticed that you have it on the 3&4th position. Which is correct?

Hey I got it fixed! Thanks for posting that Supercharged! Now I just gotta find out how to keep it from happening again! Have you got a permanent fix?

I am using plain steel washers on the shift levers when installing the pins...is there something that may be keeping it ou of alignment or is it all in the shift linkage adjustment. I will take a look at that.

Naw.  I never really figured out how to prevent my A833 from jamming again, but if you DO figure it out let me know!
I was just too happy and lazy after I knew I fixed my problem

I actually just used a pair of pliers to move the shift levers back into neutral
You are correct, they will not move if you use your bare hands, but it doesnt take much effort if you use a simple pair of pliers

I know the '69 RR I just did had a Ford Hurst Shifter in it, mounted to an A833 Chrysler and the levers on the bottom of the shifter are bent/made different. I had to custom make the shift linkages in order for a Ford Shifter to work on a Chrysler....So, moral of story? Make sure your shifter looks like a Chrysler before condeming the trans as the linkages from a Chrysler will bind when going from 2nd to 3rd when mated to a Ford Hurst shifter.


Why was that Ford shifter on a Chrysler? Same 'ol Story...."Well, it was supposed to be from a 383 RoadRunner"....

I purchased my Hurst Competition Plus Shifter new from Summit. Hopefully it is correct.
