Started a new project this weekend and it's not a Charger...

Most of you who know me remember I had originally built the '68 with intentions of giving the car to my Daughter as a graduation present. The reason was that I really wanted her to have something special that was built by Dad just for her. (even though I got to play with it in the mean time)

Well, life got in the way and unfortunately... I was forced to sell it. I made an attempt to make good on that promise again only to have those plans ruined again. They say the third time is the charm and since it isn't a Charger and I don't have the funds to go all out. I figured that perhaps her "first car" would be just as memorable.

I located a fully loaded 2002 Pontiac Sunfire GT with every option they had available. It has it's share of body flaws for a car nearly 10 years old and the 2.4 ltr motor was blown but for $350.00 I couldn't pass it up.

I found an engine for it out of a Z24 Cavalier that had 72K on it when it was T-boned. The engine started right up and ran smooth as silk. I picked it up for $450.00 along with the matching ECM's for an extra $50.00. The only difference between the Chevy and Pontiac 2.4's is the intake manifolds otherwise they are identical.

I found a new Drivers front fender and side marker light for $45.00 and it will need some tires which I have not found yet. (looking for a nice used set) I hope to have the car done by her Birthday on Sept. 13th but will have to see... If nothing else, I will be able to hand her the keys and a title for it.

The car it's self is light silver metallic and I plan to paint the lower portion dark gray metallic with a red stripe to seperate the two colors. (just something different) It may not be a Charger but It will be a promise kept to her by Dad.

Good onya mate.
Nice to see you making the effort.

I offered both my daughters that I'd build them an old school car but these days they just want to get into later model cars and not have to wait so they bought their own cars.
Kudos to you, and I hope she's grateful for your efforts.
Gotta love a '69
