I have a bare 383 block and found a 400 engine. I was wondering if I could put the crank and other parts in the 383????

You could put a 440 steel crank in the 400, bore it .030 and have a very popular 451 ci motor.

I don't know if the 400 crank is the same as the 383?

I think the 400 crank is gonna be a cast job. I'm with Sixt8chrgr. find a nice forged 440 crank, punch your 400 block .40 out & build you a killer 452 stroker. it's the best engine recipe never offered.  :yesnod:

i'm in the process of building one for the bee at this time.

The 383-400 cranks are interchangeable on either "B" block. The 440 "RB" (raised block to compensate for added stroke) crank has larger main bearing journals so mods are needed to installed in the "B" block.

I had a chance to buy a fresh 451 from a good local motor builder here in Charlotte. But I decided to use my 440 that I have had stashed for awhile. 71 Bee is right about how good these 451's are. I have heard gread things about these motors. I hope that I don't regret putting the ole RB in the 68.

Darkfiire5000...check post on here but I think you should explore using the 400 block and putting in a 440 crank. Unless your 383 is the born with block noboby will be able to tell the difference in the physical size of the 383 vs the 400. Ron (Firefighter) will hand guide you on what you need.
