A question of marketing or?

I've been shopping around the web for sheetmetal for my Challyproject and ofcourse you
get impressed by the AMD catalog but a lot of their parts are not available yet.
Is that a common trick to "feel" the possible need of certain parts by advertising them or?

I imagine these are items that are in the final stages of development. They probably add them to the catalog to start getting pre-orders.
