I have a Edelbrock 1405 carb on a Edelbrock Performer intake, it requires this adapter plate (see pic).
I added a 4 hole 1/2" phenolic spacer, do I still need to use the adapter plate? If so, does it go on top of the spacer or below?

I would set the 4 hole spaced on the manifold and see if any of the edges from the intake stick out, and the same for the carb.  If your fuel/air have nothing sharp to run into while going in, ditch the plate.  It's just another gasket needed and more chance of a leak  :Twocents:

It is designed to ensure no leaks when putting a squarebore carb on a spreadbore intake. As chargd72 said, if the four-hole spacer allows for a leak-free seal between the spacer and the intake, then no need for the plate adapter.

I like/prefer the idea of using an adapter which transitions from squarebore to spreadbore. You'll be just fine with what you're using.
