Alright fixed header bolt primed pump now it apears i have timing issues. as per factory sevrice manuel i set timing timing mark on damper at 0 withch is the hole in timing tab on engine corect? put oil pump gear in at center line of crank hooked wires up as per FSM and would not start could someone walk me through the entire process from a leaman's point of view from indexing cam and oil pump making sure i start at #1 tdc making sure i'am at compression stroke how is this all done from jump street anything would ge a great help   please get me going i the right direction  thanks  tom oh yea 69 383

pull the number one spark plug, stick your finger in the hole and manually crank the engine over until you feel compression.  line it up on zero slowly and you have TDC on the compression stroke.

check to see if your rotor bug is pointing towards the #1 spark plug wire on the cap.  If it is.. you are golden.. if it is pointing towards #6, you are 180 out.

you do have spark correct?

If your timing cam gear is pointing at 6 oclock   and your crankshaft gear is pointing at 12 oclock....then rotor on distributor should point to number 6 cylinder  at the same time :2thumbs:

As stated above...when the cam gear mark faces down, and crankshaft gear faces up,  and of course the balancer is at 0......the rotor should point to cylinder 6.   From the front of the engine the cylinders are numbered from front to back....passenger side...2,4,6,8  and driver side 1,3,5,7      I usually install the oil pump/distributor gear with the slot facing front to back.....that being said, install the distributor to where the rotor points toward the rear, not the front.  Wherever that rotor points will be cylinder 6 on the cap.   So going COUNTER CLOCKWISE starting from number 6 on the rotor  the order is  6,5,7,2,1,8,4,3      the actual firing order is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2  but install your wires starting at number 6 so you dont get confused.    I hope these details help you out   Ace    :2thumbs:
