I am looking into building my car with a 6 speed auto. tci has a 6 that I am interested in but it looks extremely heavy. however a 727 seems to look lighter and with an over/under drive I can get 6 speeds out of it. I want a strong trans and with a high hp goal ill be banging on the drivetrain with I want a trans thats overkill. building a 727 to exceed the hp can be done easy and the tci can handle 850 which is way more then enough. I sent an email over to tci to get the weight of their 6spd. so hopefully ill get an e-mail back. so if anyone knows the weight of a 727 I would love to know.

I think you should paint your car and get rid of the yellow rims first.  :yesnod:

About 140 lbs. for the basic trans.

Plus converter, plus fluid, plus cooler and lines.

you may want to check with CRT or A and A trans before you jump on the tci bandwagon.  Belgium 68R/T (aka Per) got screwed by one of their's.

I talked with a company the other day about tci. they are saying they cant see that 6spd they offer holding up to even my build which will not even touch the 850 they claim it can handle so I think I may either go with the 727 and the gear vendors or the t56.

Btw the yellow rims were replaced with some nice ones later on, that was my first charger. ;D

Also any good/cheap places to get 727 trans parts to build for a good high hp app?

do you plan on rebuilding it yourself?

I don't own one but heard the Gear Vendors splitting gear deal is kinda a gimmick only good for the O/D and even then doesn't drop the RMP's that much again, let me say this is only what I have heard from others who have them I would go the 5 speed Manual route if it were mine.

Wicked72

if I were to go with the gear vendor I would rebuild the trans myself. however i am thinking maybe just going the mantrans route would probably a bit easier to get in and would most likely be a lot lighter and i want to save weight. Any suggestions on a 5 or 6spd mantrans would be able to handle over 700 and fit fairly well in a 3rd gen?

Gear venders are strong and rugged. However they only provide 22 % OD.  With a higher stall speed converter you may not see much rpm drop on the road and you will make lots of heat in the trans.

If you bang on a high torque ,heavy car with a manual trans , I hope you have a Dana 60 rear axle. Or run skinny tires.

Wicked72

I wont be drag racing it, maybe once or twice. Its going to be more of a touring setup but I am going to run the widest tires I can with widening the wheel housing. I was looking into building my 8 3/4 as strong as possible, however I know the dana 60 built will hold up but I do not know much about the 8 3/4. could the 8 3/4 with a build hold up to a man trans?
