Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Looks very nice!

I dig the Georgia-style GL lettering.

What color did you go with......Corvette Flame red?

Jason

JT01

Its corvette flame red. This General will be a little mixture of all of them. This car came from the factory with Saddle interior so that will be like the early cars along with LEE1 stlye letters. I shaved the side marker lights and rear reverse lights like the later cars it has the later stlye fatter 01s and the flag is the later style with the skinnier bars but I had the blue on the flag done in the early darker blue. It will have the later wide push bar and the later style roll bar. Im also putting the vinyl top trim on it.

So it will be a Cali-style LEE, with the Georgia interior and Georgia GL-text.

What about the rims? 15x7 in front and 15x8,5 in the rear old Vectors?

JT01

I have a really nice set of restored 15x8.5s that Im putting on front and rear. 245/60s front and 255/60s back no white letters.

Will that really fit? I thought a 15x8 would be max in front.

Mike DC

There were no 15x8 Vectors.  Only 15x8.5"

mikepmcs

those 8.5's up front with those tires might be an issue with clearance.

I have allready checked thats what John had on his Bos General Lee for a while and they worked fine plus Ive seen 5 others over the few years at DukesFest with the same and I talked to the owners and the never had any problems with 245/60s on 8.5s up front.

If they are old Vectors they will be fine. If they were the new re-release Vectors there would be an issue because of the backspace on the new Vectors.

Yep your exactlly right the old vectors will work but the new ones the same size wont work on the front.

I would have thought originals would have been only 14" back in the 70's
Gotta love a '69

Mike DC

In the TV series they ran mostly 14x7s.  Sometimes 15x7" or 15x8.5" showed up.

Sometimes it was even 14" on the front wheels and 15" on the rearend.

charger01

imo 235 60 would be a better choice for the front.  That 245 is a pretty good size tire for up front.  Maybe others havent had problems.  I know I would .  looks good, keep us posted.

Not true, i have a pair of 15x8 Vectors in my garage.

Mike DC

Go measure them again.  This wouldn't be the first time someone has re-measured their "15x8s" on my suggestion and gotten surprised.

They made some 14x8s but not 15x8s.  At least none that I've ever seen, nor have any of the vintage wheel dealers that I've ever talked to about Vectors.  Even the "15x7" size is really more like 7.25" wide.

When you map it out, there's a steady pattern across the 15" widths they made.  It adds another 1/4 inch with each increase:  6.00 - 7.25 - 8.50 - 10.00.  I'm not positive but I think it may have been the same pattern with the old American Racing slot mags of that era.

Man... I wish my GL was at that stage!!!  Unfortunately, its gotta wait til I get back from Afghanistan!

Mike DC

Wow, I'm impressed!  Scratch off another white elephant.

I've heard other people say they had 15x8 Vectors plenty of times over the years, but it always turned out to be the 8.5" size when I actually checked it out.  (Hmm . . . I guess it's time to take some of these 15x8 claims more seriously.)

Do you have any interest in selling the 8.0s?  One or all?

I don't want to high jack the thread more then i already did so i'm going to send you a p.m.

Sorry JT01

JT01

If I wanted to get a little more correct I would put 14x7s on it like Mike DC (formerly miked) said the were used the most but I love the look of the 15x8.5s the best.

Lennard

I like 10x15 (295/50-15) in the rear and 8,5x15 (235/60-15) in the front the most.

What backspace? and do they ever rub?  Thanks

Looks like shine runner!  :icon_smile_cool:

Lennard

Back space on all 15x10 Vectors is 3,75 Inch. I never have anybody in the backseat but so far no rubbing.
