Newbie - question on a '72 Rallye

The 72 rallye is almost as rare as the 71 R/T at a total production of 3,431 hard tops and 460 coupes vs 3,118 R/T's and 5,054 Super Bee's.

This makes a true blue rallye a pretty rare car and it is gaining collect-ability fast.

Part of the reason for the loss of appeal for these cars was that they actually were an option on standard charger and could be built with the more mundane 318-2 bbl and the 400-2bbl.  The R/T came standard with a 440 and Super Bee came standard with the 383.  There really was no low po version for the R/T and Super Bee actually while the rallye package could be paired with a hi po engine like the 340 (only available with the rallye package), 400-4 BBl, or 440.  So the writing was on the wall for Chrysler where they were focussing away from the HP stuff and the rallye became a bit of more of an appearance package.  But it still retained its R/T roots with the bulge hood, optional air grabber hood, rallye dash, sway bars, the best damn taillights to ever be put on a mopar, optional unique decklid striping, and the very cool horizontal scalloped doors (only year for these too and VERY valuable).  The later 73/74 rallyes had similar options packages, but they are not as distinctive as the 72 rallye IMHO.

Deals are out there though.  My buddy Greg picked up avery solid 400-2 bbl rallye last year from Kansas city for an incredible price.

I can't wait to help him finish restoring the car and getting her back on the road!  http://gallery.me.com/gschmidt211#100047&sel=0

 ^^^ From above.

" SO did the 72 rallye, without the long body stripe". You could not get a 72 Charger with rallye doors without buying the package.
IMO the car is worth 10K easily

Well, it's official.  I got the car talked down to a price that i was very happy with, and I'll have it tomorrow around noon.  Thanks to all of you for you help and comments in this thread.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you more as I begin working on my first Charger.  I'm really excited to be the proud owner of a '72 Rallye...
