couple of questions about Laptops

couple of cuestions:

1- I have a DVD ROM/CD RW unit on my laptop. I have the chance to upgrade to an unit what it looks to be DVD R unit ( pic doesn't show details about ) and the RW big white emblem... it does mean thast an unit able to record DVD units ?... is from the same Laptop series ( HP NC and NX ) so phisically must fit, but wondering about the conection if will be the same for record DVD and CD

this is the unit ( I hope pic will come up )... sorry, quite often I don't understand all the emblems readings and meanings



For more details my laptop is an HP Compaq NX6320, and the "donor" is an NX6120

what would I need to make it work completelly ? just software ? or it is allmost a plug and play job and the software would it be to better performing of the unit to edit and burn units ?

2--- talking about more upgrades... My laptop uses an Intel T2400 CPU ( Core Duo ). I have the chance to get same clocking, Cache, etc.. and everything on a T5600 processor. Its aparently same socket and everything just Core Duo 2 processor. Will it work on a plug and play job ? need some drives or software upgrade ? will I win something making this up being allmsot same specs ( but 64 bits ) ? I asked directly to Intel website, but guess what ? none response

3--- Originally cames with a 6 cell batt and 65 watts transformer/charger. Batt is damaged and since I need to get one anyway I'm seriouslly thinking on get a 9 cells batt instead the 6 cells batt to get more reserve time. Do you think my transformer/charger will be fine or do I am getting in troubles the transformer/charger ?

the laptop I got is used, on a 1/3 of the regular price on the used market. Is really for Audio and lighting softwares use, so I'm trying to get the best performing from this nx6320. It was the only way I could get a laptop with an opportunity like this. Laptops around are so expensive that I would need to work by 3 months using  MY FULL 3 MONTHS PAYMENT on something similar. Making this upgrades still will be around 1/3 of a new one

a DVD writer will say DVD+RW, DVD-RW, or DVD+-RW somewhere on it.

do you see the image I inserted ? there is the pic of the DVD front face unit, but image is some blurry. Maybe someone familiarizated reading the emblems will tell just looking at them without need TO READ at it

to follow up with the other questions, if it is a laptop and it wasn't a dual core CPU to start, i doubt that the motherboard can handle a dual core. even if it's the same socket, most manufatures, especially Compaq and HP will hard code the MB so it can't handle a CPU upgrade... they want you to buy a new machine. Core 2 and dual cores are different CPUs.

If the DVD fits, no software is needed, the OS will just load the drivers on it's own for a CD-ROM.

from the quick google search, it lookis liek the motherboards are different. so i doubt the CPU will work.

the left states it's a DVD-RW, so it will burn DVD's, but you need to see if it's a +RW, -RW, or +-RW to see what media it exepts.

the middle says it will burn regular CD's as well

and the right says it will play DVDs

It is a dual core, the upgrade will be for a dual core 2... so mostly will change from 32 to 64 bits ( its what it says the comparision chart on the link I posted

There is a NX6320 laptop from same series what cames with the T5600 CPU, what dunno is if it cames with diff MB

NOTE... the CPU donor IS NOT the nx6120... is simply a vendor selling this CPU, without say where it comes from

here the specs on the nx6320 series... red box is my T2400 CPU, green box is the T5600 CPU on same series

it cames with 512 Mb 553 Mh Ram and I'm already upgrading to max 4Gb and 667 Mh

100% interchangeable. I didn't realize these where business machines, the model difference is just upgrades, no drivers needed for CPUs.

Biz computers usually have a long run for the motherboards because business use things like norton ghost and so on to image the drives... when you change the motherboard windows will require a reload, so they keep them the same and just upgrade memory, optical drives, CPUs and sure. You'll be fine. Just pay attention to what you are doing and it's cake. I do this all the time <I own a computer shop>

and local replacements are 4400 mah. Original 6 cells is 52 WH.

Note: if you have it in stock being you have a shop, I can buy from you LOL... get a 6 cells replacement ( non original HP ) batt locally cost me around double or three times more than this 9 cells piece.

I went fron a T2700e to a T7200 - wow what a difference
If you have the Intel 965 chipset, you shouldnt be limited to the T7xxx range and can get fast Core 2 Duo to run in it.
i think my dell used the 945 chipset which is limited to 32bit memory access although it takes a 64 bit processor.

there are 100's of threads out there, but try tomshardware.com should find the info there

well the spec says 945 GM chipset, but haven't check personally what is inside. Dunno even know how to open this laptop... once tryed, but looks it has LOT of tabs around that I didn't want to break anything LOL. Tried but only could barelly open it, so closed back again

beside that... the T5600 is the one I have handly. I wasn't thinking on this upgrade, but floated on without search it and noticing this specific one is not expensive really, used but with guarantee, well, is an oportunity, but if wasn't because that I never was though on make that upgrade.

Got the DVD unit PN... and looks to be Double layer and EVEN LIGHT SCRIBE UNIT!, so it looks will be needing some sofwtare around to the DVD burn and light scribe functions
