owner must be kinda whacked in the head if he replaces the front sheetmetal with 70 stuff with the prices of wing cars 2day-MATT

mustanghater

If guys lived in a foreign country I can completely understand why he would do that. To get the parts from America would cost an a whole lot to ship so I think that's why.

no the car is fine its the giant tires and rims and that horrible lookings hood-MATT

Ok but the last picture at the track looks like it's the oldest. Looking at the peoples hair styles and the slotted dish mags I would say late seventies to mid eighties. So the funky rear wheels used to be just for racing.
You can tell because the slotted dish laying on the ground was probably on the car when he drove it to the track and then he switched them out for the big slicks.

Since then, the funky nosecone and centerlines were added to the front and he traded all four slotted wheels for a mini or something :-\
To top it all off he took the old DC doityourself sixpack hoodscoop and being from England he mounted it backwards because he didn't know any better
I think anyone of us could make that car look 100% better on a saturday afternoon but then he has it and we don't

THE CHARGER PUNK

Exactly, slap on one of the cheaper repop fiberglass nose cones on there and put the headlight doors in and fill over all of it and rattle can it gloss yellow and clear and install some headlights in the grille, then add  some new bf's 255/60/15 all the way round on some 15 x 7 new magnum 500's, get a steel hood on there, rattle can primer it, paint it yellow and clear it do the same to the fender scoops ,and last rattle can the wing gloss black and clear it and order a daytona stripe from year one and ou got yourself a decent looking car for awhile.(thats what i would do to make it a decent driveable car)-MATT (then again it aint my car)

If you want it to be that way so much, how about you offer to pay for all that?  Shipping overseas is not cheap.  I'm willing to bet that funding was a major factor in how this car turned out.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

Ghoste

And who knows, maybe he's got more cash than he could spend in two lifetimes but this is how he wants his car to look.

Paul 500

How often do you go to shows & see a real Daytona being raced down the track like they use to in the 70's ?  In England we've got a few fully restored Daytona's, if this one was restored it would be no different for all the rest. ( dont take it out cause its rainning, scared i might get a scratch etc)
People always ask him if he's going to restore it & he say's he might one day. Over here parts nearly always cost us double once we've paid duty & shipping. As it is he's having fun with his car & isn't that what its all about ? not just stick it in a museum with a rope around it so no one gets too close.
(personally i would restore it as theres a good chance it will get broken. Also why not make & race a Daytona clone, if it gets smashed so what it's not worth $200000)

is it a real daytona?-MATT

Reading is certainly overrated...

The yellow daytona is real. Its in England, its was a green car with a black interior, 440, the nose cone is something someone made

Troy

Analytical thinking apparently is as well.
Is the car real (non photo shop)? Or is it a real wing car?
Still not clarified.

Do photo shop cars come with 440s from the factory?
just stating that it didn’t clarify if the statement ment that the car existed or if the car was a real wing car, as for photo shop if it was just a yellow Daytona that some one found a picture of and photoshoped the black bits and the tires on it to see how they would look. It’s a moot point right now. I just wanted to bust your balls and bump up your blood pressure a bit. ;) gotta keep you guys on your toes or else you start loosing your edge!

We're all getting goofy as the holiday onslaught begins I suppose.

It dosent take a lot to entertain us! This all started because someone didn't grasp the paint scheme on the watermelon Daytona! If your going to replicate a car,you have to do it the way it was! Peoples tastes were different in late 1969! I was hoping by Mike replicating that car, that the original car would surface, and settle the 70 Daytona dispute once and for all! That car is the only car that could give legitimacy to possibility that the factory was somehow involved in those 3 cars that were supposedly built! It dosen't make sense that the factory would photograph a car that wasn't built for them! The Chrysler corp logo is right on the photos! I figure that the car was something on the idea of the Scat Pack,or Rapid Transit custom built showcars. Why would they customize a car like that, and not put aftermarket wheels on it if it was for a private party! The fact that the purple car was built the same way,(an R/T model with no window plug,or A pillar moldings, and vynal tops)makes me wonder if the dealership that built the purple car,may have seen or displayed the green car and replicated it! A photo of the watermelon Daytona was found showing the car in a Dodge display at a Michigan Tech school in early 1970. Why would Chrysler display that car in the middle of a Dodge display,if they weren't involved with the car somehow! Thats just my thoughts on the watermelon Daytona!Maybe the original car will still surface someday, and will have some documentation, showing factory involvement in the car! The Super Charger was given the Daytona treatment around the same time too! Maybe the shop that did the work on that car may have some input on the green car!Someone out there knows the rest of the story!
