I put a couple bottles of "104+" Octane Boost  in the road runner with fill ups over the three years I had her... I didn't notice any difference but because it was a '71 engine using '07 gas I thought it might be a good idea because todays' 101 "Supreme" is still a few points shy of the '71 Gas... it did seem to smoke a bit more with it..  :shruggy:
Anyhow thanks for posting that clip - good to know.  :2thumbs:

some interesting video

Yeah but the tests are on foreign cars !!!!!. :hah:

Seriously, a 2009/10/11 engine with electronics, EFI, computers, emissions controls, sensors, and so on, is not the proper test environment for us owners of classic Mopars, for all the obvious reasons. And peak power (how ever they defined that) isn't applicable to real world drivability and dependabilty.

Still it's good to see that somebody is going after the wild claims made with real testing. :yesnod:

Whatever happened to that 200 mpg carburetor?

they also ran part throttle to full throttle tests over several hours, not just peak power

i put this out for all the modern muscle car owners here, i figure our cars and the engines in them probably will do better cause their not designed to run on the current gas and temperature that modern cars are

Every time I see a kid with spiky hair walking out of Napa with one I chuckle a little bit.

They do work under certain conditions which is why they can probably make some type of claim. They are designed to increase octane which can, in the right engines or tuning situations, decrease pre-detonation - ie. Old muscle cars with 10:1 compression and no fancy, computerized ignitions. Proper detonation = restoration to the HP these cars were designed to have with the old premium gas.

I guess in reality they should sell these as "can restore some cars to production HP". But, then they wouldnt sell any.

Thanks for the link, I enjoyed seeing the results.

Well has anyone else used 104+ in their older engined cars to help boost octain?..

Is that your dirty little secret? A closet octane boost user?

Yes, I admit, I use a booster. Lucas. My research found what I believe to be credible data. Some boosters do raise the octane, and the data is clear, but some barely raise it and yet make big claims.

I agree with RallyeMike's points, depends on the conditions. For me, the Lucas Octane Booster works. It raises the 91 available (California) to 94 and the motor is happy. There is no pump race fuel in my area BTW.

I did like the video. What would I think if they had tested Lucas and said it too had a 2% decrease in peak power? My answer is that in my engine, in the real world, the Lucas delivers better drivability (basically like Mike said).

I ran Silkolene Pro-Boost in a Ford Escort Mexico engine (rally car) and it blew the bottom end out.

I had a friend at a BP lab test it for seawater (joke) they told me it had large amounts of ...let me get this right
Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and would detonate my engine. The engin blew the day before I got the results !!

back in the eighties i had a 383 with  12.5 compression pistons.used the tall brown can of 104 plus.the thing would ping on anything else but that. didn't have the cash for race fuel at the time.  was very happy with it.
