Certain Primers for Certain Paint?

I was talking to someone last night about getting my Charger soda blasted and then primed. He said before I start, I should go ahead and figure out who is going to paint the car, because that will dictate what kind of primer to use. He says all primers dont work with all paints.  I had never heard or read that before on here. Are his statements accurate? Do you pick the primer based on the what kind of paint it will be painted with?

Thanks a lot

I think he meant use the same brand name primer use with brand name paint. For example PPG Primer with PPG Paint, Dupont primer with Dupont paint, ect, ect. If you ever worked in a bodyshop in Detroit that's not how it goes though, What ever paint & primer is on sale that week they get. :slap:

That would really suck to be expected to work that way.
