FBO set up Dizzy's

Talked to Don at FBO today and I'm getting a dizzy from him set-up just for my engine. Since I'll be putting off head porting or swapping to other type heads for a long time now it's worth a shot. Any feed back on his set-ups? I have the A688 ECU kit and it did help me backtrack my issues to the dizzy's adjustments. Since I basically stuck to the big block book using all Mopar parts it should be a cake walk (I do wish I could have cc'd my heads to nail down my compression ratio but layers of delays and time constraints had put the stops to that and other things) We'll know in a week or so how he did!  :scratchchin:

Been running his set up for about 5 years now with no problems....just sent him back my distributor to re-add the vacuum advance set up back since going back tot he stock Carter AVS carb...again with no troubles

Good to hear, time and time again I've gotten good "Mopar guys" to help and it's starting to pay off, I'm gaining on this project finally. His approach to vacuum advance NOT being "ported" but "manifold" makes sense, we will see.

Yup...he converted mine to run on manifold vacuum as well...

Well it's finally in and timing set @14* initial. New XR5 NGK plugs with gap set @ .040. Vacuum advance hooked up to full manifold vacuum off the nipple at the rear of the six pack intake manifold NOT the one on the center carburetor. WOW nice jump in idle when I hooked that up from having it disconnected to set initial timing. Don nailed it setting up this distributor, no more pinging over 3/4 throttle. Good strong idle quality and finally able to put my foot in the six pack deep even running mid grade 89 octane! I was low on fuel so I threw some Hess 93 in there and will play with some carb settings over the next week or so but I'm very pleased with the results. Having had to baby it the last year or so it felt good to open it up and just let the the thing scream! This upgrade (the FBO A688 kit and Dist.) combined with the Mancini 120amp Denso alt. have payed off. I'm sure using the Mopar Performance Cam made it easier to set this dist. up but I was uncertain of my exact lift @ 50% and compression ratio not having cc'ed the heads (346's). Don knew the old "resto" cam's numbers (they match the six pack's lift and duration but lobe slope is standard) and Speed Pro lists 9.59 ratio for their .060 overbore Hyper's so we went off that. I can't wait to put some miles on it to check variable conditions and mileage.  :2thumbs:
