I am wrapping the the restoration on a '70 Superbird.... yeah, I know... not a Charger but the wheelhouses are the same.  We are installing 15x8s in the rear and 15x7s in the front.  I'm thinking of getting 235/60/15s for the front but what would be a good fat tire size for the rear without rubbing?  We have the standard width 8 3/4 rearend and the wheels do not have any crazy backspacing and are pretty much centered.  The owner says "The wider, the better" without rubbing or doing any modifications.  Let me know what you're running and if you have any pictures, that would be great.  Thanks!

as far as i know the standard wide is a 295 series tire...   295/50/15 is widely popular
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

Nice!  295s!  Back in Nov '09 at the Areo Car Reunion at 'Dega there was a Copper '69 Charger 500 that looked good.  I couldn't remember what size was on the back but I thought it was 295.  And this tire will fit an 8in wide rim?  Or should we go with a wider rim?  Thanks!

I have 295/50/15 on 15x8 crager ss and 245/60/15 on 15x7 on the front on my 68 charger R/T. No problems. I would go with the 245 on the front as they are closer in hight to the 295's.

Yes, they will fit, BUT, because they tire is so wide compared to the rim, you need to run them at lower pressure to get full contact patch of the tread. Lower pressure= more heat, more heat=accellerated wear. A 9.5" or 10" rim would be better, but you need to be spot on with the backspacing for these to fit.

Simpler choice would be to use a 275/60 tire. Easier to find, easier to fit on the 8" rim, and only 3/8" narrower per side than a 295.
