ready to fire up engine after rstoration what should i look for?

Ok it's been about 3 1/2 years sence i started rseto. 95 percent done with the whole car, took engine out put new gaskets and seals in it and while it was apart i also put new cam lifters Etc. it has been at least 2 years ago i had done the work to the engine so it has sat that long  what should i do before the intial start? also is threre some sort of base line check list to do before i try to start the engine for instance make sure engine ground wire is hooked up, make sure there is trans fluid in it sparkplug wires correct Etc.. any in put would be helpfull i just don't want to rush things now and make a mistake that will cost time and money.  i want to make sure it all goes smooth!!! I should not have to pull cam out or anything major like that because it sat so long? The engine  work was done by a very reputable performance machine shop in Lancaster,Pa. {RACE-KRAFTERS} Thank  you  tom         Maybe i can get one of my kids to take pics and post. Again  thanks

There have been many engine start up posts made here but I think you should try and have a person from the engine shop there for their recommendations and another set of eyes. Cheap insurance if you are a little nervous/worried and haven't done start-ups in the past.

I would prime the motor,,,ie,,pull the distributor out,,,,and using a drill / priming tool to turn it over,,,and oil the motor before you fire it up,,,,this way you can check and make sure you have oil pressure,,,and it lubes everything in the motor for initial start up.

Can fill the float bowls with fuel,,,i usually get a squirt bottle,,,and put gas down the vent tubes to fill the bowls,,,

Have a fire extinguisher handy

Timing light,,,so you can check and adjust the timing when you get it fired up....

Charge up the battery as well....before starting the motor.....
