Man! I clicked this thread thinking I was getting the chance to buy something other than a car.  I would guess though that the wife would rather me buy an old car to drag back to the house.

tan top ---  That maroon '68 charger picture you posted:  Is that the stock original color "RR1"??  It looks very good!  If I manage to get to the paint stage, RR1 was my original color (Burgundy Metallic).

Mytur Binsdirti

Notice the funky tail light brackets on the maroon car, which were only on the early '68 cars. Does anyone know when they changed and went with the more traditional '68 tail light brackets?

VegasCharger

My 68 SPD was 1/12/68 and it has the traditional bracket if that helps.

Bob T

Mines early, Sept 17th 67, but I didnt know there were two types of brackets MTD, Thanks.
Puts it in the oddball category along with the slide down ashtrays and tri colour door medallions vs red only on early 68 builds.
Also, mine didnt have the welded nuts inserted into the hole for upper seatbelt mounts, which I found out after slitting the headliner. Apparently the early ones missed that too. Had to roll the headliner back and we welded a reverse mounted profile cut nut/plate in there.

Can you please post pictures of the tri color emblems & better pictures of the tail light brackets.    :2thumbs:

MTD is right  :yesnod: :coolgleamA:    , must be a early car  , has a skeleton inner deck lid frame too   ,  & red, blue white upper door pad emblem  :yesnod:   , although thought early cars had the inland shifter  , this one has not by the looks of it  :scratchchin:

check out these links below  ,  more info on whats been mentioned above  :yesnod:

Edit:   He's also got this one...      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge-Charger-RT-426-Hemi-/121099428168?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1c3216a148#v4-42

Digging the blue interior, but the woodgrain insert on the console should'nt be there and lets its down, just my humble opinion

Here are some better pics...................

Thanks, but I was wondering what the early tail light brackets looked like.

Bob T

Battery went out on camera, smartphone crashed and took everything with it  :brickwall:

Rechecked the build date,  September 7th 67 110853

Tri colour, check
Insert trunk lid, check
Brackets , looking ugly and originally QQ1  , it would be the ''au natural'' area of the BBD

Am I correct in assuming that the addition of that vertical bracket is the only thing that is different? Thanks all for pointing out the inner decklid skin; I never knew that.  :2thumbs:

tan top

ive not seen an early 68 &  later 68 side by side in person to look my self , but as far as i can make out , its only the vertical support brackets that are different ,
also going off subject a bit , sure i remember reading , seeing pictures of   an early production or preproduction 70 roadrunner ,  think it was white ,    it had these extra vertical tail panel supports too  :shruggy:

Interesting.  I have seen that bracket in the past, but very few times, I caulked it up to very early car or production plant variation at the time(s).

What an outstanding color combination and car options to own together..... on a pair of 68s......
