How much to charge?

Another Charger owner wants me to do work on his Charger. He wants trunk floor replaced and also quarter panel replaced. I know I can't charge outrageous prices that body shops charge but I can't afford to do work for free. What do you guys think?

20 bucks per hour is very cheap for good work.  :shruggy: Auto body gets 35.00 to 45.00 around here and welder shops 65.00.

maybe he has something you need or a service you could use, I trade all the time. $20/HR... :eek2:

The last time I did that kind of "Hobby work" for someone other than a Friend, I charged him $15 an hour, plus materials.

This was 10 or 11 years ago  :shruggy:

I wouldn't take on another job like that ( Resurrection of the body shell on a rusted to death Chevy) now for three times that.

For Friends, I will swap labor, parts, or sometimes I'll just do some stuff for nothing...

I was paying my body guy $45/hr in his garage, and he stuck to that price when he moved into the new shop. Shop rate now is $60/hr I think.

I only charged $25 hour out of my garage & $40 out of my shop. To cheap I guess :scratchchin:  LEON.

I'm betting his question is not how much to charge a hour but how much to quote him total for job.  I don't like to quote a price because of unforseen complications. LEON.

Exactly. Once floor is off I'm betting those rails will need some attention also. What else will need to be done...only when I get old panels off I'll be able to see.

my shop rate is $41 for 1979 and older vehicles. BUT, I'm not a body man so I'm of no help for labor times for the panel replacement estimate. Although I do have an old labor and time guide if you need times to base off of
