Yes, I have run the Edelbrock IAS Shocks on my 68 Charger RT.  They are great.  When they are torqued from the top they stiffen up and when torqued from the bottom, as in rough roads, they soften up.  You get a lot less nose dive when braking.

How did they compare to the old shocks that were removed from your vehical? What type of shocks did you have before and how much better are the Edelbrocks IE 10% 100% etc.   Thanks for the info, I am also thinking about purchasing them.

I replaced OE shocks that were pretty much worn out so the improvement was like 90%  However, I have run a lot of shocks through the years and the IAS shocks are the best riding high performance shocks I have ever run.

I just recieved mine today. I ordered all four from Mancini Racing. I will be taking off the basic Gabriel shocks. I am hoping to see a BIg Improvement in ride performance( especially at approx. 75.00 a pop). I should be installing them some time in the next week or so.

I hear the shocks are good. Ive seen they offer them in the "Classic" version, I think that is what they are calling them, which are black and gray. I just cant get over the off road truck looking rubber boot on them.

I think I might try to classic version. I checked the Edelbrock website and they can be ordered from Advanced auto parts, Auto Zone etc.

For as much difference as they can make, it's amazing how little attention this hobby pays to shocks.
There's no real system to compare one vs. another in any way, shape, or form.  Seems like everyone in this hobby has to just go by word-of-mouth or else just assume that spending more money equals better shocks.

Imagine if this was how we all picked our camshafts . . .

I put on the KYB's last year and really like them.  Some have said they thought they gave too harsh of a ride, but for me, they just firmed things up.  The car handles much better.  Bob

I like KYB Too, but again i have never tried Koni, Bilstein or other "Performance" shocks. I like a stiff ride for handling purposes.

i had the ais shocks on my jeep and they were amazing. cornering, bumps, braking were all much better and the ride was soooo smooth. but they didnt work as well on my dads expedition while drving slow, although  amazing on the freeway. his big expedition takes turns at high speeds so much better then before its rediculous, seems like they are a little too loose in the back though at slower speeds. i think it really depends on the application

I agree shocks get overlooked. Circle track guys are all over shocks because they know the value of the right set up. Shocks do have dampening ratings for comparison. If you really want to get into it you can buy yourself a shock dynometer ranging from $800 to $8000. It's pretty hard to accurately get seat of the pants feedback on different shocks because there are so many other variables like spring rates, car weight, weight bias, driving habits, ... and of course, what the new ones replaced !

I would agree you see alot of tech articles on engine setups and some tranny setups but never suspensions non the less shocks, i went from having blown out front shocks and a bent rear shocks to 14$ napa gas shocks and was very happy with them, the ride is really nice and my car feel like its not going to flip when i turn

It's always the same story on shocks:

Some corporate musclecar magazine runs an article that says: "We got these new ____ brand shocks.  Follow along as we install them under Project Ass-Bomb while we wait for its new big-inch smallblock to arrive."

Next month it says:  "Wow!  Project Ass-Bomb sure does handle better now that we got the ____ brand shocks!  They keep it flatter in the corners while still giving an amazingly smooth ride.  A major improvement compared to the old 90/10 drag shocks we were replacing."

---------------------------------------------

And that's it.  Every time.
Nothing about actually comparing shocks at all.  No numbers, no real head-to-head comparisons of any of the various brands, and no criticizing the tested brand at all.

I deal with some talented ride and handling engineers at major carmakers, who sweat incredibly tiny details (shapes of damping curves, bushing stiffness) in developing a new car's ride-and-handling package. Against that, I was almost embarrassed to just get a set of shocks and slap 'em on, but what can you do? We don't have an OEM-level development program at our disposal.

I went with the "Classic" look Edelbrocks, and have actually been quite pleased with them, considering they were NOT developed as part of a carefully refined whole-chassis package. Basic ride qualities were not changed dramatically from the anciet-looking Gabriels that were on the car (a '68) when I got it, but vertical motions -- including body roll -- were clearly better damped. This makes the car feel better tied down and gives a sense of greater stability. It still feels like what it is, a nearly-40-year-old car and not a modern BMW, but for the expense and trouble involved, I was happy with the improvement.  --k
