I know it's not bolted on yet, but if you look at the passenger side where the fender and hood mate up near the grille, There is a large gap between the grille and right where the hood and fender come together. I didn't notice this when I put the fender on but it sure is showing up now.

whats the jack & wood for  , silly question i know , but looks like its under   tention ,  ,  sorry if i have missed what you had done to the car , but why was the fender off ??   :popcrn: not  fitted a fender to a 3rd generation , but would start taking the whole front bumper/ grill , front valance off  , as its not just the hood thats high on the passanger side  its the  fender also !!

You don't have that hood pin mount too high do ya?
Maybe it's stopping the hood from going down enough.....
Gotta love a '69

It looks as if the upper bumper to fender support is pushing the fender up on that side.  It's a small piece of metal and can be bent pretty easily.

On the same train of thought, Maybe you put something together in the wrong order? Like there is a washer or nut under something that its supposed to be on top of?

Here is the latest pic. It's fully mounted and looks a little better but it still has a gap.

Where is this "upper bumper to fender support" at? Got a good pic of it?

The jack and wood was to hold it into a position to work from. I replaced both fenders. Neither of the fenders have any bondo in them other than two small dings on the drivers side. Probably less than 2 heaping tablespoons full on the whole fender. I know it's the fender and hood both... I thought the header panel might have been off but the original grille looked fine.

Nope. Like Tan Top pointed out it's the fender and hood both.

I cant imagine what it might be.  I'm beginning to wonder if maybe the fender is tweaked somehow. It looked very straight and didn't have any bondo in it at all. I took both of them down to bare metal so I know there is no bondo.

I'm I correct in understanding that the grille isn't fully mounted yet? Maybe take it off like your avatar pic and take a look how the hood and fender are lining up with the rad and headlight supports?

You need to loosen the fender bolts and twist the fender so the outer top becomes level so to speak, then raise that whole side of the bumper.

I definitely don't have those and it looks like I need them. Wonder what they are called?

You talking about the fender bolts where it mates up to the inner fender and header panel??

Im not completely familiar with how 3rd generation fender attach in the front ,but basically you need to raise the fender at the outer side of the top.

I've tried to adjust this the best I know and it still has a bit of a twist. As clean as these fenders were I think the left one has a tweak to it. It's probably as good as it gets, at least with my limited knowledge.

As what was stated above.....It appears as if the outer side of the fender needs to come up more still  and the inner needs to come down so the hood will line up correctly with the nose cone.  Could the mounting point be tweaked somehow???

mikepmcs

i took the measuring tool in photoshop to this and as already discussed the entire passenger side needs to come up.  The valance is visibly lower(at least an inch), the top of the fender(on the outside) is about an inch lower than the driver side and of course the bumper is too low as well.  Looks like you need to loosen everything up and start lifting here and there to achieve desired alignment.  Looks like a possibility that something could be tweaked as well.

ezcustoms

i would take a measurement of the height of the inner apron where the radiator support meets on the right side and also on the left .to make sure they are the same.
