I believe that's the CA State Assembly's official motto.

 Sadly they are not alone. I thought my city was small enough to keep itself out of too much trouble until they announced plans to place a %#@* 1,000+ foot aircraft carrier in the Columbia River less than 2 miles from my house. http://www.theoutlookonline.com/news/story.php?story_id=127872516383875400

It's going to cost $31 million just to renovate the thing and God knows how much to maintain it. Is there a place left in the US that isn't run by morons?

Astoria would have been a great place for the Ranger. You could sail that monstrosity right into the harbor and be done with it but to put it here in Fairview means partially dismantling a bridge, dredging the river, environmental impact statements, yadda, yadda, etc. :rotz: I think I'm going to move.

Look at this thing! You could house more than half my city of 10,000 in it.

Now there's a good idea, use all the retired aircraft carriers to house the homeless. Bids can be accepted to dredge shallow waterways, or even dig canals to places that have no water fronts at all. Think about how many jobs that would be created by handing out thousands of shovels to people so they can dig a really long, really deep trench to a bunch of states in the Midwest from one of the coasts.

Any "Asbestos" is fully encapsulated in the structure of the mineral, unlike the brains of these addled politicians....

And minerals never get broken open like when the rock is crushed to surface roads? There was a big flap near me (El Dorado Hills, CA) when it was discovered that the area of a large yuppie enclave of mansions (Serrano) was riddled with serpentine and the grading necessary to prepare the pads had released fibers into the air. And tests showed the surface of the whole area had high asbestos consentrations from years of construction grading.

On a side note, I was driving a dump truck in that very same subdivision and many drivers complained about how the contractors weren't watering the area to keep the dust down, my truck had A/C so I kept the windows up and wasn't driving around with a dust-covered dash like the low buck guys.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Or, better yet, pull one along the shore and tie its power into the electrical grid. Cheaper and more practical than scrapping the reactor.

Well, you know they're going to scrap the reactor. It costs more to scrap it so that's what the government will do.

As a lifetime inhabitant of the socialist republic of Ca., Im not surprised at anything that happens out here. Too bad, so much great farmland, high mountains, coastline and classic cars (they're the next to go out here-mark my words!) and only one or two politicians statewide with any common sense...Dont forget, we are also the state that prefers to protect some idiotic canal fish over pumping much needed water to the most productive farmland in the world (look it up- San Joaquin Valley delta smelt)...Is there still any land for sale in Utah or Texas?.... :rotz:

There's quite a bit more going on here than meets the eye.  Yes, on the surface, this is entirely crazy, but do a little bit of digging, and you'll see what's behind it.

Although sponsored by Gloria Romero (who is an idiot in her own right), the language that actually made it into the bill was provided by a group called The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (http://www.asbestosdiseaseawareness.org/).  Guess who the group's main sponsors are?  Trial lawyers, who have been shaking people down for asbestos-related diseases for years.  (http://www.asbestosdiseaseawareness.org/2010-adao-sponsors/)

So, it's not a crazy law for the trial lawyers, in that it would increase the opportunities for them to take people to court for naturally occurring serpentine that exists on their land, without affording them the sympathy that comes from the protection of a "California state rock."

Cynical, yes.  Disingenuous, yes.  Counterproductive, yes.  Crazy?  Well, maybe crazy like a fox.
